So i'm driving driving home and the truck shuddered really hard for a second. I turn off the radio and just give full attention to it. Nothing else happens. Get to the office and it wont hold a steady idle. Bobs between 500 and 1000 and tries to die every time the rpm's drop. So I put it back in gear and go back out to the highway. As long as the engine is under power it's fine but as soon as I let off the gas it shudders.
I had just gassed up not 10 miles earlier so I am cursing the gas station as I pull into advance. Go in and get some octane booster and water wetter while I am there. Go out and put the booster in and pop the hood to add the wetter. BOOM, the air filer was completely disconnected from the tube. Hook it back up and retighten everything and back to being smooth as silk.
Funny how the filter popping loose could cause it to behave that way. Even though it is an open K&N filter.

Long ago I stopped and got the oil changed in my Escort, and they changed the air filter but the tube was left off, which had several sensors in it that would have read 0 or nearly 0 air movement since they were before the open tube, and man that car ran like crap I got about half a mile from the oil change place and looked under the hood, saw the problem, stuck the tube back on and all was well.

This is what I hate about new cars, a non mechanical problem will make your car run like crap if it runs at all, even though mechanically it's all perfect. Gimme an old V8 with a gas sucking carb and the only electrical part being the electric choke ;) Love those electric chokes and maybe an electric fuel pump. This is also why I refuse to own a newer car without warranty one little penny ante sensor going tits up on you and you can spend major bucks getting it fixed.
