These look real nice, and make for some good reduction in rolling and unsprung mass

David:

I have a question for you. The RB Racing site is stating a 7# weight savings per rotor or 14# for the pair (granted their math sucks because they are stating one pc. OEM @ 33 and theirs at 24#. That's a 9# weight savings not 7#. I'm not sure what their rotor 'really' weighs?)

http://www.racingbrake.com/Two-piece-rotor-Open-Slot-Ford-Mustang-GT500-p/2233.htm

Just out of curiousity, what made you choose them over these:

http://fulltiltboogieracing.com/M-1125-MSVT15.htm

at a weight savings of 10# and a cost savings of $137.88? Was it the slotting that you were looking for?

What is the cost for replacement rotor rings on the Ford Racing rotors?

That is a question I have never actually been asked. I can find out for you if you'd like. If Ford doesn't supply them, we can easily duplicate them no problem.
I'm not going to speak for Cobra Toy, but I'm running the RB's because there is actually info out there about them. I initially considered the FRPP rotors, but a.) they're not slotted-drilled as the RB Rotors are, b.) they have a closed hat design that's not conducive to air flow around and through the hat and rotor assembly, b.) the RB's have what appears to be a superior vent design to the FRPP (what little I can see of them), d.) replacement rotor rings are available for the RB's and e.) RB offers a matching 2-piece rear rotor (FRPP doesn't).

Cooling is an issue on these cars when going to a pad like the Hawk 60's. I was cracking stock rotors even with auxiliary cooling at tracks like Homestead and Sebring. It appears that the RB's will be superior to the FRPP's.

I talked to 2 vendors about the FRPP's, and they knew basically nothing about them. FWIW...the FRPP's can be had for $1208/set.

All of this being said, I'd still be curious about the rotor ring replacement costs for these in the event that the RB's don't work out for me. I'll be running them at RA in 2 weeks, then have a few easy events at Roebling in July and August.

Because of the staggered front face/rear face hat mounting flanges of the RB Racing rotor rings you will have no options regarding replacement rings other than going back to RB for replacements. That would not be the case with the FRPP rings.

When you say RA I'm assuming you're meaning Road Atlanta and not Road America, correct?

Yes, Road Atlanta.
AFAIK...there are no other current options out there for rotor rings for the FRPP's. At least FRPP doesn't list a ring, and I know of no other 2-piece replacement rotors for the '13/'14 GT500 15" brakes.

Ok, if it's Road Atlanta I guess I won't be seeing you at the track.

As I stated in post #24, we could reproduce a replacement ring for the FRPP set with no problem if Ford did not have them available.

Okay, I for one will keep that in mind. But as per my previous post, it appears that the FRPP option is inferior in a number of ways to the RB's. If I have problems with them, I'll be looking for a different solution.
Thanks.

Bruce,
Two reasons I didn't go with the ford racing rotors over the RB rotors. One was the lack of slotted rotors and I like the initial brake bite of a slotted rotor. The other one was the open hat design that will reduce heat transfer and keep the wheel bearing cooler.

Sorry I didn't weight the RB rotors before I installed them. I just based the numbers from the web site.

I just finished bedding in their front racing brake pads and I'm very impressed with the brake pads so far. I have a track event on the 21-22 so Ill be able to give some more feed back after the event.

 You hit the nail on the head. S you should try the RB front pads.

So far, on the street, the initial bite with the Hawk 60's is fantastic. RB recommends Hawk as well as their own pads, so yeah...I may try both and see which feels better.

Thanks so much for your tip on these rotors a month or two ago! Before that, I was only aware of the FRPP's as a replacement rotor.

Here you go Bruce. It looks like a reduction of 23.74 lbs of rolling mass. :burnout:

The 2-PC rear rotors are 4mm thicker than the factory rotors...

Thanks for the pics. Looks good. That's a nice reduction of rotating mass and unsprung weight. I will be interested to hear the kind of life you're getting out of the front rotors.

I'm glad to see that you guys are happy with the RB product. We've been in the process of becoming a distributor as they have no one to move the Mustang stuff for them, and we're going to work with them on developing products for the Focus ST as well (as well as some other SN95 and S197 things). I spoke with the owner at length just yesterday to catch up and they really know their $#%* and are dedicated to having the best product available.

If any of you have questions or would like to order, please contact us!

Thanks.

Here is my long-term results for the RB Rotors...
After 25+ weekend track event it's time to replace the front rotor rings. I am total pleased with the quality of the product and how long they lasted. I always use the RB pads on the front (XR70) and Hawk DTC 60 on the rear. We currently have about 8K track miles on the car with three drivers...
