I could be wrong on this but, I Think it has to do cam timing being so retarded to make higher rpm power, that when actually hitting the upper limit combustion is so late it's burning leftover fuel the whole way out the pipe.

I'm sure a tuner could shed more light on this.

This can be done in a tune, command more fuel and retard timing. If you get a WOTBOX and use the no lift shift feature you will most likely get flames regardless of the tune.

Lol. This is true. I was shooting fire balls with a nitrous/e85/wot box setup
