Sorry if this is the wrong section, but any help would be appreciated. My 98 Cobra holds good oil pressure but it bounces in the middle while idling. When the car runs past 4k the oil pressure drops to 1/4 range and does the same thing...I don't want to take the chance and trash the motor so I am thinking it's best to install an external aftermarket gauge.

Any had this issue before and also what's the best way to run/hook up an external gauge to verify oil pressure?

Just for the sake of checking pressure you can remove the oil pressure sending unit and install a gauge in place of it. I am not sure about your 4v motor, but on the 2v there is a small I want to say 5 or 6mm allen plug in the bottom of the oil filter adapter under the oil pressure sensor, you can install a gauge fitting there too. That's probably where I would install an aftermarket gauge if you were going to install one permanently.
