96 cobra.... Heating and cooling issues all the sudden :(

Well I have had the car for a year or so now, only problem I had when I first got it, is couldn't drive it when it was 100* out during the middle of the summer. But at night I could drive it fine and never once had a problem with it.. Swapped my intake manifold for a PSR by Todd, n redid everything n still no problems.. Well starting about a week or so ago, on short 5-10 min trips into town I noticed the factory gauge was up around the L mark on normal...

Not good in my eyes as its always ran around the O n R. So figured maybe t stat was sticking... Replaced it. Seen that the old one was installed backwards, but still looked brand new. Replaced and started filling up... Burped system.. Cranked it, let it idle.. Have a scanner that reads live data, it says car is running fine, car itself don't seem to n acting funny. Idles fine, drives fine... Temp is stills round L on factory gauge... Yet scanner showers 195-200*... So I got a mechanical gauge where the original sender is, between original, and mechanical there is a 25-40* difference... ( see pics ) I have one opinion of possible head gasket, but car hasn't really been beat on for over a month +, weekend warrior type car. Another suggests air still in the system.. If so.. How in the hell do I get all this air out? If not... What y'all think? I'm at a loss, n really don't feel like pulling and building a motor just yet

With the car off what does the ect read if it reads -20 the sensor is bad or you have a short to ground that could be your issue. 240 isn't enough I don't think to mess a head gasket up unless it was driven on that for awhile

How do I check what the ECT reads with car off? U mean on the live data part with? Without the car running.... Not sure if it will read that sensor like that... Would prolly read the temp of the water surrounding it

N car has been perfectly fine... The gauge just started showing abnormal, so I started checking into it. N so far this is what I have come up with...

I found a 170* thermo through Orielys for the 03 cobras, drilled a couple 3/16" holes to help with burping the system, so I redid everything, sealed it off, filled through crossover plug like I says too.. N with heat on high it was idling between 215 hottest to 200 on mechanical and 190-181 on scanner

Live data with the car off of it reads ambient temp then you will be fine sensors good.


You want the temp around 190 is your fans kicking on around 200 or so?

Fan kicks on at 190 on the scanner and then goes off at 181.... On the mechanical gauge that's 210-215 n the off at 200. Little to warm for my taste at night with no heat with the hood popped
