Hey guys, i've been having a little trouble since i got my car, i know the main reason is that i'm just not use to it. i came from 450hp automatic 3v that i only drove to the track. to a 750hp cobra with mostly anything that needs to be done to be running 9s.

car info:

302 stroker aluminum block
2.3 Whipple @ 24 psi E85
SRA Spool 3.73, moser axles, 5/8 studs
325/50/15 M/T drag radials
Rpm Transmissions Level5 tranny
and pretty much every other mod to support the power.

here is a dynosheet
dyno0.gif

i think my 3.73 are way to aggressive. at 40mph the car hooks dead on the new tires but, it feels like the hit is just to hard. last night i was trying the car out with my friends Shelby at a 40mph but i had to let go 1st i snapped the s/c belt and second i think i broke something on the rear end (again)

im trying to setup the car to run rolls from 40 to 140 and i just cant as it sits, it runs out of gear in 4th and the 40mph is way to hard. i'm considering going to 3.31s thinking the launch would be a bit softer, i'd still have plenty of torque and i'd reach 140mph on 4th with no issues.

here is a chart. with 3.73s at 40mph in second im at 3200rpm which is when the car makes all the torque.

here is the chart for 3.31s

so, what do you guys thoughts?
am i hitting on the right direction ?
what are you guys running with the same kind of power/manual tranny?

Sell it!!

I currently have 4.10s from the previous owner. I am looking between 3.08, 3.27, or 3.55s. I have a few days left to decide.

3.55s are actually the ideal gear for your car. But if you enjoy street racing you'll want 3.27s.

the valve train is stock?

wondering why you shut it down at 6000?

28" tire and 3.73s can take you to 144 @ 6500

3.55s will take you to 140 @ 6000 and 151 @ 6500

yeah, as now im going to stick to the street. i lost a wheel twice at the track and i want to feel more confortable with the car before i go to the track again.

not stock, ported heads, cams and vs/r i just do like to go over 6k specially since im not use to the car i want less thing to brake.

im not just looking at the top end and the rpms but low as well, i want to launch at 40mph under 3k rpm.

what gears r you running on the shelby ? the 3.73 package or 3.31s?

how about the valves and springs? if they too are upgraded don't be afraid to let her rev.

Why? ( I can't tell as your dyno graph is vs. speed and not RPM as to what power the car is making)

3.73s and trutrac. 325/50/15s for the track, trapping 137-139 letting her rev to 6500-6700 at the stripe.

Valvesprings im not sure but i think they are.

i forgot to get the dynosheet that show the rpms. but i tried the car at around 30-35mph and it leaves just fine, at 40 it hooks dead on but the kick is really hard. if i can launch at around 28-29k rpm i think it would be dead on, and it would have plenty of torque, and i also like the idea of staying on a gear for a little longer. right now i have to shift shift shift took quick

damn, :) i see you on the 9s soon

I can't believe you're running those gears on that setup, that is insane. That's a drag setup straight up, not street. I've got stock gears putting down 600rwhp and I couldn't imagine trying to keep an extra 100+ rwhp in check with MORE gear. Stock gearing is PLENTY.

I've got 315DRs and it will hook at 40mph MOST of the time. Other times it will spin and hook at 50-60mph. So yeah, gear down guy!

Im expecting 800rwhp and I went with 3.31s. 3.27s seemed a bit to long to me.

BTW, where did you get the excel graph?

Ironhand, really? It's a .04 ratio difference. You would not be able to tell a difference ever between 3.27's and 3.31's.

Op, I think 3.55's would be ideal with your viper spec trans. If you went to a 3.27 or 3.31, I think first gear would suck.
