This might be a dumb question but is it normal for a built 4R70W to make a distinct bang/clunk noise when going into 3rd gear, OD, and reverse?

I recently bought a TT cobra with a built 4R70W and it does this consistently.

Are you sure it's the trans and not something else in the drivetrain? It wouldn't be a bad idea to get underneath and check the u-joints, pinion flange, and diff mounts to make sure everything is tight.

Mines not quiet at low rpm. Running below 3k, it slaps and bangs into gears. Butter at mid to high range.(can't feel it shift) Reverse doesn't clunk.
Only time reverse clucked is when there was damage to the plantaries and twisted the input shaft / splines on torque converter.

Uncomfortable, pull it out and have a transmission shop check it out.
