31 spline bearings?

Ok, right now I have a completely stock rear end. I recently bought some 4.30 gears and brand new bearings. I plan to upgrade to 31 spline axles and diff as well. My question is do the 28 spline axles use the same size bearings as the 31 splines or will I need all new bearings that fit the 31 splines?

I think its the same kit. The OD of the shaft should still be the same as 28 spline shafts.

ford lists only one bearing/seal kit number for solid axles, if that means anything.

They are all the same for 28-31-33-40-41-and so on.

I thought the 31 spline axles had bigger o.d.'s which was the main reason for switching to them? If there not bigger whats the advantage of going to a 31 spline axle and diff?

Your rarely break them in the middle of the axle itself.

Only so big will fit in the housing.
