Well I narrowed my choices down to 3 cars, but leaning towards this Race red 2012 Cali special M6. The car has the hid headlamps, comfort package, and shaker 1000 system but no 3.73's =[...

Its a gorgeous car, but I am wondering if there is a huge difference in performance between the 3.31 gear ratio vs the 3.73's. My dealer agreed that they will install and warranty the 3.73's if I took the car as part of the deal but I am a little unsure about having a dealer pull apart my brand new rear and. Also what rpm's does the manual do with the 3.73's.

My 2010 is an auto and has 4.10s and does 2600 at 70 and is annoying as hell. If I do 80mph the car is at 3k rpm and I feel guilty letting the car run that high for a long period on the highway.

Lol really? I drove 8 hours each way non stop to denver and back about a month ago, car did 3200 the WHOLE WAY THERE. Granted the V6 made it pretty quiet, but nonetheless, she did great for 133k she has on her.

I am having my dealer do the same thing. I would not worry about them doing it as it will be under warranty.

I would say the difference is huge. Do they not have a 3.73 car for you to drive? I will say that the gears are short combo'd with the tranny gearing, so if you do a lot of stop and go.....? I think I am turning 2200-2400 at 80mph.

i think it's a matter of what people want out of their cars...i love my 373 cause the gears seems to be spaced just right...some of us love the short gears and some love the long gears...

drive one with 373 and see if you like it. who cares what the car does in the 1/4 mile...they are all fast no matter what!

Yeah they have a white one with 3.73's so I think I'm gonna test drive that one before anything. Whitemach thats what my 2010 auto is like now with 4.10s, and is exactly what I dont want again now that I am going to be doing more highway driving. So if I am doing 2500rpm or under at 80 I'm good.

Is the acceleration on the auto the same as a manual with 3.73's? I know the trannies are geared differently but what would the auto be like with 3.73's?

correct! just saying it aint going to be that bad with 3.73 ,,,cause my 4.30s are 2500,the 3.73 gotta be 2000 at 80mph!!! go 3.73 its perfect!! in my humble o/p i think 3.73 with the auto is the hot ticket! i would get the auto if i had to do it over! then you still can have the dealer do the 3.73!

hey grabber blue gt,

I see you chose Dana Ford, lol i could tell since thats where i ordered my 12 GT premium from. FYI, the process so far is fairly quick. 9/27 ordered, 10/28 is build, maybe ETA 1-2 week more?

What I wanna know is HTF you're getting 22mpgs??? I've been pretty conservative (w/ a little having fun here and there) and i'm averaging LESS than 16mpg. (Does have like 1700 miles vs your almost 10k miles.)

I have 3.73 gears in my '12 GT. It turns about 2400rpm at 80mph in 6th gear.
My '97 has the optional axle ratio which is around 3.3 or so (don't remember) and it turns 2200rpm at 80mph in 5th. so not a big difference.

Longer you drive with out "resetting" it makes it like that.. I've been getting 15 mpg since I reset mine after filling up last tank.

I love my 3.31's. Lower rpm on the hwy, better gas mileage and Havent really seen any cars with shorter gears go much, if any faster than me with the same mods. Been 12.85 bone stock with 2.1 60'(crappy track prep), 11.99 with a 1.67 60' with tires and programmer ONLY, Added nitrous to that and went 10.93@123mph with a 1.55 60'. No other mods than what I mentioned.

I went from 3.31's to 3.73's in my first 2011 GT 6M.
It was a more fun gear that felt snappier and put it in it's powerband a little quicker.
The dealer charged me near $1000 for the install and the rear acquired an intrusive annoying hum/whine sound in 6th gear along with a burning smell which they had no interest in fixing and they said was a variation of the norm...

I got the gears because I thought the car felt soft when accelerating for a 12 sec 110 mph car. Gears didn't really cure this phenomenon.
Overall the swap to 3.73's was not worth the money imo. You will get MUCH more out of a tune and actually accelerate quicker.
