Looking at DR's
At 535 rwhp the stock tires are not gripping.
I need them for grip but will be using them
Almost always on the street, so they will need to
work well for everyday driving.
I tried regular 555's but they didn't grip for
anything.

Looking at Nitto NT05R 285/40/18
or MT 3785r 305/35/18

Opinions, reasons for opinions (fitment, quality, etc),
and pics?

Thanks

I personally like the 555Rs 305/40/18
or the MT DRs 305/35/18

The 555Rs have better longevity but don't hook as well, although considering your power level you will like the 555Rs

A 305 tire will fit on the stock wheels.

Are 555r the same as NT05r?

The NT05r comes in 305/45 but not 35 like the MT.
Wouldn't a 305/35 be too much tire for my needs?
It would sit pretty high don't you think?

Do the 285's look good and wide?
I like a wide muscle look.
But the MT wouldn't last as long.
How would the 285 look as far as width compared to the stock tires?

They are not the same tire. The NT05R's stick much better. Kinda in between the 555R and the MT's. Mine lasted about 10K miles. I tried a set of MT's 305/35. They were a little short and didn't last but 3500 miles.

I like wide.
But the 305 Nittos don't come in
40..only 45. The 285 come in 40.

Would that be awfully wide and tall?

Have MT DR 305/35/18 on stock 07 rims widened to 11". However, I first ran them on the stock 9.5" rims before had widened to 11" with no problems. The MT 305/35 are about 26.75" tall which is about a 1/4" shorter than stock tires. I have 10K on this set and not yet worn completely. Day and night difference in traction but don't drive in the rain.

On a stock wheel, the 305's will fit, but they will bulge a tad. Note: The shorter tire will bulge more since there is less sidewall.

I think the 305/35 is too short, and will bulge and look funny.

I ran the 305/40 555R for a while. Looked ok and lasted about 10k miles. Only thing I did not like is the sidewall felt a bit squishy on corners by design. Pic is below.

305/45/18 is really a tall tire, and would look a bit strange and would effectively be a gear reduction, but would fit.

Now I am running 315/35/18 Toyo TQ on an 11inch Rim, which is pretty much stock height and has good tread and sidewall. That is Pic 2 below.

In your case, I would do the 305/40 555R if you keep the stock wheels.

What about the 285/40/18's?
How would those look?
They would bulge more than the 305/45 right?
I don't mind that at all

Again I like wide. Not odd looking wide but
pretty wide.

The only thing about the 555r is the NT05r grips
better, and if I'm spending the cash, I wanna
Make damn sure they grip so they make me happy.

Are the NT05r more or less squishy than the
555r on the turns?

No wheel change for me either.

The 285/40/18 is stock size, so it will fit fine and look good\stock. Stock Size is 27.0 inch diameter.

The 305/35/18 is 26.41 inches.
The 305/40/18 is 27.61 inches.
The 305/45/18 is 28.81 inches.

The NT05R seems to have a more firm sidewall than the 555R. The 555R is a drag radial, so it will grip much better than stock.

I like the 555R ok, and would buy again. Read some reviews of the 555R vs. NT05R. If you want the stock look, and the NT05r is available in 285/40/18, go for it. If you want a wider raked look, the 555R is the best size option for the stock wheel. Good luck.

I don't think the noise would bother me.
I use the radio and have selective hearing, usually hearing the
radio or blower lol.

Let me sum up what I'm looking for:

1. GOOD grip that I can drive relatively safe in
rain. Note no street tire has gripped well enough
2. DD friendly to a good extent. (Wont be tracking much at all
if any)cold/bad weather excluded of course.
3. Some last to them (7-10k on DD if possible)
4. Wide tires that stick out a bit, even a bit past fender
if no fitment or rub issues).
5. Take turns reasonably because of DD.
6. Able to keep stock 08 wheels and stock front
tires.

So there it is!
What tire and size in this tire sounds like it will
fit my needs the best?

And BTW.. Thanks SO much for the input and help.
I actually had a near accident today AFTER deciding
to get new tires!

Car ran a red when I had a green arrow for a left turn.
I sped up to miss getting Tboned and I did a 280 and ended up facing
Caticorner on the oncoming traffic.
Car died and didn't start on first try.
Started up on 2nd and I hurried to miss traffic coming.
Back of car almost hit a little mini red light on a pavement
Island! No damage to car.

Close call and re affirmed the stock tires were no longer
even close to having enough grip with my
new 535rwhp!

Thanks again for the help.
I appreciate it more than you can know
people!

At your power level and what you're going for I would go with the 555R's. They are better in the Rain than the NT05r's and will give you better tread life. They aren't quite as sticky, but close. I remember talking to you a while back when I first got mine Where in tx are ya?

I have been hearing the 888 grip better than the
555r though, even though the 555r is a DR.
I also heard they are better in rain.

Yes? No?

Here's where I'm reading this

http://www.svtperformance.com/forum...-r888-best-rear-tire-ive-ever-used-stuck.html

I have not used the R888. If you drive in the rain (which I do not), you may need a real street tire vs. a Drag Radial. One option for you is the NT05 Max Perf tire (not Drag Radial) in 295/45/18. It will be 1.25 inches taller than stock, so your speedo will be off by about 3mph. However, should look OK and provide better traction, and some limited wet capability. Should sit on your stock rim fine (better than the 305). FWIW

I vote that you try out the R888's. I have heard good things about them, but I can't chime in because I have no personal experience with them. I have NT05's on all corners now and there is very little traction, which is to be expected at where I'm at now. I would probably get some 285's and run them on all 4 corners so you can rotate them.

hey all. gunna bump this from the dead to avoid starting a new thread. after reading this im deciding to go with 305/40/18 555R's on my stock 18's. I want to run a 275 tire in the front. What is a popular size that is ran in the front for our cars? Im thinking 275/40/18 in keeping the hight the same with the rear. I was also looking at the NT555 extreme for the front, however, im seeing alot of the 555 G2 around now. after some light reading it sounds like the 555 G2 is just an improved model of the original 555. Does anyone have any experience with these?

I've had the G2s on the rear at 285x40x18 and have been extremely happy with them. I live in Washington state and we get a lot of rain here obviosuly so I needed something that would perform well when dry and wet. I had the stock goodyears on before and these are a night and day difference. I'm at about 570hp and can catch 95% of second gear when dry.
