Who's got 275s on a 9 inch rim? My new wheels should be here tomorrow, so I'm ordering tires tonight. I'm going with Nitto NT05, but they don't come in a 265, so I need to decide between 255 and 275.

The fronts are going to be 9 inch rims. 245s look bad on a 9 inch rim, so I'm trying to determine if 255s would look any better. I'd go with the 275s, but my car is pretty low (about a 2 inch drop) up front, so I don't want to have rubbing issues.

Any advice is appreciated. Pictures of 255s or 275s on a 9 inch rim would be awesome.

Thanks in advance for your time.
Matt

I've had 275 on a 9" rim. On the front I never really noticed any major rubbing. Maybe a bit on the swaybar when turning lock to lock but thats about it, this was on an ~1.5" drop though. Could only tell when I removed the wheel. Though 255's seem like it would be pretty skinny on a 9" rim.

they dont rub, but the tires do bulge. its not a problem, just a matter of if you care whether or not the tire sticks out farther than the lip of the wheel.

you could stagger the tire sizes... For a 17 inch wheel: 255-40 up front and 275-40 out rear.

I'm going with 315s on a 10.5 out back.

I'm kinda worried about spending a ton of coin on tires that might be destroyed, but I think youre right about the 255s being too small. Also, Nittos tend to run narrow, so maybe a 275 would be more like a 265?

Hell I run 285 width Kuhmo XS's on 17x9 wheels and they don't even rub, a Nitto 275 will definitely not rub.

Here's when I had Toyo 275's...

And Yokohama 275's...

Thanks for the replies guys.

And yeah, I know that a 275 will fit on the wheel...i'm more concerned with will the package fit in the front wells. Thanks for your input though. I'm going with the 275s.

I have 255-40-17 on my 17x9 Cobra R wheels on the front and rear (for now), and they fit pretty good. Dont look skinny at all!

If anything they are pretty much flush with the rim. BTW, I am running a Yokohama Avid H4 tire (they dont make these tires anymore though).

this is what I run on my car

im the same as mike... Nitto 255/40 and 275/40 out back. the 275 will rub the swaybar at full lock, but wont hurt anything, unless you get the steering rack limiters.. then they wont touch at all. if i have time, when i get home i will un-cover the car and snap some pics. i didnt like the 275 up front, it hangs out just a tick on the forward and rearward edge of the bumper/fender. didnt look the best to me, but i live with it untill the DR's wore out, then they went on the back and 255's went on the front.

I don't like the feel of 275/40's up front. Mine are almost wore out, I'll be replacing them with 255/40's in the next week or so. It does rub a little as mentioned at full lock, and sticks out a little far for my taste. The biggest thing for me is that it doesn't handle near as good with the wider tires up front (likes to wander from side to side and you feel the imperfections in the road more).
