Gonna probably put nitto 555 on the front with the 555R drag radial on the rears. I would like a staggered look, but will it work for driveability? Can I go with 245/45/17 555 in the front and 255/40/17 555R's for the rear? I do not want a tire that buldges over the lip of the rim, but would like to have the widest tire possible for the rear(traction issues). Help please.
245. 255, or 275/ 40 or 45/ 17 X 8?

The Nitto DRs tend to be a little more narrow than a regular radial. Here is a pic of some 275/40/17s on my 17x8 rims:
