Just departed Charleston AFB and headed home. Nice Black 2014 GT Mustang in rear view. He pulls up and we bs for a second...you know...nice car...nice car. We both roll up to a red light and keep talking. He asked if it was a 14? Yep...only 2,000 miles. You want to run? I just laugh and said sure...I wont hook up but sure. Light turns green and we both get after it. My stock GY don't hook...what? He pulls several lengths on me. Now we are rolling along at 40 mph. Pull up alongside and give him a thumbs up! You want to go again? He said let's do it. This time is way different and I let up before I hit 3rd gear.

Lessons I learned....factory GY rubber really, really sucks. Can't get new rubber fast enough.

Peace

Not easy to go from a dig on stock rubber with 600rwhp.

From 40mph I'm sure you put bus lengths on him.

I had two new 5.0 automatics and my 75 year old father currently has a 2013 5.0 manual tranny, they are easy to launch, but they only trap 110-115, so they are not great from a roll.

I currently have a TVS swapped 2011 GT500, 1st gear is useless, 2nd is tough in the cold weather. I swapped to Michelin Pilot A/S 3s, better than stock rubber, but 600rwhp is tough on any street tire.

This is a shot with new rubber (stock tires were gone in 5,000 miles) and I added a tach. Tach was removed for street driving...only used it at the strip. With MT DR the best time I ran was 11.20. Not bad for a stock 6-cylinder!

Sweet mother of god why did you get rid of that beauty????? You are so lucky to have owned that! How much did she put down?

It was rated at 275 factory HP. I had a 150 shot but never had it on a dyno. The low end torque was what she was famous for. Easy to launch. Foot on brake and bring rpm up to 2200 and then floor it. Got beat a couple of times but it was rare back then.

She was totaled...and the only car I ever cried about. Was sitting at a red-light and got rear ended by an old LTD station wagon going about 45 mph...drunk driver. The impact sent me into the intersection where I got t-boned in the front left by a chevy truck. I had only minor cuts from flying glass but the GTX was bent/broken. I only owed about $12K on it when it was hit. At the time I was an E-5 in the Air Force and could not afford to have it fixed. Insurance totaled the car and I walked away.

Would still have her today...but wasn't meant to be.

Have you done any suspension mods yet? I went to av tuning Friday and I'm pretty sure they were talking about your car?

Op you must've have been spinning bad! I have no idea why Ford or any of the big three put skinny ass tires on their 400+hp cars. Its really pathetic. I had a '06 gto with stock 18's on 235, WTF!
At least GM got it right with the Corvette's putting wide 325's.

The '13 GT500's should have came with at least 305 stock.

Because Ford would charge an extra $5k to the price for "premium performance" wheels and tires that are heavy and still not as good as a $2k set of wheels and tires you can get from a vendor on here.

The GT500 has always had traction issues. So what does ford do in response for 2013-2014? Add 112 more horsepower.

All in good fun, first mods on these cars need to be tires/cooling. However the temptation to add power mods right away wins a lot.

Because in most conditions the stock tires absolutely positively suck...

I took my 14 GT500 for a short drive on Sat before storing it for winter, the outside temp was about 50 degrees.

I could easily spin the tires rolling at 45mph in second going to WOT, this with the TC on...

First gear was like driving on ice...

It kinda depends on how long he had been driving. I think he had just left the AFB. It was 70 here today and right around the corner getting on the highway I hammered it in second around 45 and got no traction. I wanted to heat them up cause some asshat in a challenger was riding my ass and tried to cut me off at the end of the on ramp. He bitched out and dove three lanes to get off the highway at the next exit when traffic cleared up and I was waiting for him. Stock tires suck cold.. suspension mods or no. If he hooks he's gone even against the legendary 5.0 (stock). When I first read the op I thought he ran into a twin turbo 5.0 that's pretty damn mean but it's a 12 not a 14.

Even my Boss can be a handful at 50*, I can only imagine what throwing another 200hp at it would do

Yep...she wont hook up. Stock GY really suck unless they are hot. It is the one and only complaint I have with the Shelby. 606 hp to cheap factory rubber....and they won't hold it...imagine that? SVT did an outstanding job but fell a little short with such a small patch for such high power.

My current plan. Revan Racing Suspension kit, 13-5 kit, upper pulley change, long-tubes and H-pipe, and stuff the biggest drag radials that will fit under the beast. Mods should pull 700 or better rwhp. Going to have the factory PP rear wheels widen to 11 or as much as they can be. Got to do more research to find the best combination.
