Our customer Robert Kinzley stopped by today to dyno tune his 2012 Boss Mustang after we installed a set of Kooks Custom Super Street Shorty headers and Jeg's Stainless Steel cat delete pipes. The Headers are a breeze to install and along with the cat delete pipes took about 6 hrs (as opposed to a 8-10 hr install for LT's.) We've been using the Kooks headers on all our in house header jobs for the 11+ cars due to New Jersey's tight inspection laws. Even though this car has the cats removed at the moment, the stock cat pipes can be re-installed along with a new tune to get the car through inspection.

We strapped the car down to the dyno to base line with our mail order tune pre-installed with an SCT Xcal 3 programmer and we saw 420 RWHP with 378 lb/ft of torque. Our tuner Jim D'Amore Sr. made a small adjustment to the fuel curve and cooled the car down. This resulted in 425 RWHP with over 381 lb/ft of torque!

Other than the Kooks Shorty headers and cat delete pipes Bob's car is completely stock. No Cold air kit, No axle back mufflers, No Throttle bodies. We suggested a Steeda or C&L intake system and a 1 piece Axle Exchange Driveshaft to help free up a couple more horsepower but Bob was impressed with the way it was. We all know that won't last for long once he is bitten by the Mod bug ;-)

Here are a few pics of Bob's Boss, awesome looking car and now it sounds even better!

Here's a testimonial from Bob:

"Just want to thank you guys for the work doen so far on my boss. The new tune is way more than I expected. The acceleration is immediate and linear and pulls so much harder than before and doesn't stop like when I had the TracKey installed.

Had a nice mopar for lunch on the way home. I feel way more connected to the car now as well.

I'm really freakin happy !

Thanks Again !"

So 5 HP & 3 lb/ft of torque. Holy ponies Batman!

Lol no, the initial run that netted 420 RWHP already had the headers and our mail order tune, we made a small adjustment to the fuel curve and cooled it down to make a peak number of 425/381.

These cars stock make about 380 RWHP, we are a good 40 RWHP over stock!

Here is factual testing we did on a 2012 Mustang GT, car already had a custom JDM tune, Steeda air kit, and GT500 Axle back.

I'm sure for the Boss we installed this same setup on he would have increased HP similarly or greater than a GT Mustang.

"Initial testing of these headers showed an increase of 10 rear wheel horsepower and 8 foot pounds of torque at peak, and an average of 14 rear wheel horsepower and 13 foot pounds of torque in the mid range!! Not too bad for being hooked up the STOCK mid-pipe and catalytic converters. When combining the Kooks Super Street Headers with a high flow H-Pipe, JDM recorded an increase of 8 rear wheel horsepower and 10 foot pounds of torque at peak and even more (10-15) in the mid-range power band!! Add these figures up and you’ll see a gain of nearly 20 wheel horsepower and 23 foot pounds at peak and 25 horsepower and 30 foot pounds in the mid-range!! Now you’re in long tube header power gains!!"

You nit pickers need to just get a life. Do we really need to beat a dead horse with the +or - fractual hp between headers. We all know ballpark what your going to get, and if you are counting on exhaust for any serious gains your doing it wrong.

Sounds incredible! So just to clarify that is the kooks ss headers no cats through the factory side exhaust?

These are looking like the hot ticket if you need to swap back in cats for testing. This with an O/R H/X is about the same as LT's

Your absolutely right, they are the best alternative at the moment for someone in an OBD2 inspection state. The gains are really nice and the fitment too!

Any pics of the shorty header next to a stock exhaust manifold?

Here is a comparison photo I made when we first advertised these headers. They look a ton better and the primaries are larger with a much larger collector area too!

In all seriousness, those might be some of the best looking OEM headers I've seen from Ford.

They really are but there is plenty to be improved on the design. Obviously the gains from the Kooks Shorties show that, even more with longtubes!

420 from shorties and a h-pipe is strong. Nice job! I have heard of a few stock bosses that have put down nearly 400 on a dynojet once fully broken in. Mine made 388 sae w/ 1k miles... It has 6k now and I bet its closer to 400 than to 390. Still stock....

Hey Guys,

That's my car above. With the part upgrades and tune the car is totally transformed. I am extremely happy and can't stop driving it. I don't know why I waited so long. It pulls like a mother and in my opinion, worlds better than TracKey as far as torque feel and throttle response - its instantaneous and I feel more connected to the car. As I continue to improve my driving skills, ill look to be installing better tires, steeda cai and high flow mid in the future.

Hate to slide off topic, but what kind of gains are we looking at with LT's/OR X (Kooks) over stock headers/oem midpipe...over shorty headers/cat deletes-oem midpipe? Emissions aren't an issue where I live...

We haven't done a comparison test yet but I'm guessing not much more than 10HP if that. The shorty header gains are very similar to a test we did with longtubes and a catted x pipe on a 5.0L car back in 2011
