That's an excellent suggestion for a low cost mod(s) that yield a pretty good bang for the buck. There isn't a shifter on the market that can eliminate an issue with the clutch, bellhousing alignment, pilot bushing, or internal transmission damage. A shifter mechanism that can offer excellent feedback or "directness" will provide a whole new experience and make the car much more enjoyable, provided you don't have any of the issues I just mentioned.
