Why did Ford go with a cast crank for the automatic, and a forged crank for the standard?

Click to expand... Ford likely went with a cast crank in the automatic cars due the torque converter putting lower stress/shock on the crank. Pretty sure that the lower cost of the cast crank was also a deciding factor.

Sep 28, 2010 #3 R radaman New Member Established Member Joined Mar 5, 2007 Messages 335 Location Hawaii Yeap. The crank can hold up well over 600rwhp, but the converter definitely wont...In all honesty, the factory auto trans is pretty good stock, but wouldnt trust it over 450rwhp for to long.
