Hey guys!
I recently started hearing this tapping at idle only when the car is cold. When driving around for about 15 minutes. It seems to go away and I cannot replicate it. It sounds like it's coming from the front/driver side area, but with out pointing it with a stethoscope, I can't be for sure. I'm really hoping it's just a lash adjuster or the cam chain tensioners and not something more serious. What do you guys think?

That’s what it was on my car. Cam tensioner. One of them finally shredded and clogged up the oil pickup screen.

Just to clarify, I had the exact same symptoms as you. It would warm up and the tick would pretty much go away.

Oh man, thanks for the pics and info. Looks like I'll be getting the Ford Racing M-6004-A464 kit or maybe the one from MMR, if its up to snuff. Hopefully mine hasn't worn down as much to clog the oil pickup screen, but first things first.
Thanks for the reply!

Same thing happened to my expo with 4.6 2V. When it clogged the pickup, it took out a head and a cam. A wiser man would’ve scrapped it and got something newer and nicer but I yanked it and rebuilt the old girl. Total investment of $6k including the rebuild and purchase price of the vehicle and it runs like a clock but looks like a old weathered piece of leather on the outside.
