2001 Cobra guys I need your help....

I have a friend that just bought a 2001 Laser Red Cobra Convertible. He called me today and said he took the car down the interstate yesterday and was turning 3k rpm in 5th gear at 70mph. He told me that the previous owner who traded it in said it was a 373 gear, would it turn that high with just a 373? I thought it sounded more like a 410 or 430 gear, thoughts?

He probably has 4.30's minimum. If he really was at 3k going 70, he has 4.88's, which is unlikely. Get the exact RPM and punch it into one of the gear calculators.

Well, I overlooked it on the first look thru on the FAQ's, but saw it on the second time, looks like 456's, wow! He has aftermarket wheels, what if they were 18's what gear would you suspect?

jack up the rear. have someone watch one of the rear wheels while you turn the driveshaft. however many times you turned the driveshaft around to one rotation of the wheel is your gear(3.73, 4.1, 4.56,.....). the reason i say to do this is because the speedometer can still be recalbrated for the wrong gear. the speedometer will read 70 mph at 2500 rpm's when calibrated for a 4.10 gear, even if you actually have 3.73's....

if youre gonna see how much of a rpm you are going on the highway speeds, you gotta make sure youre on flat ground
