Personally I think saleens are overrated. If you are willing to pay 20K for a 17 year old car and are comfortable with it, then it is worth 20k. I don't think I would pay that however.

I think it would be worth it to a collector, are you going to drive it a lot? On a side note a buddy of mine got 1 of the 11 86 convertibles brand new (rich kid) and he trashed it, so there's only 10 left. It was triple white and beautiful, what a waste.

They deal a lot with Saleens and late model Mustangs and know a lot about them and may be able to give you a better idea. They also buy and sell them so they may be interested.

I would say it would be valued at about $17k or so IMO!!! The originality and mileage are key's for value on Saleen's now. I've seen alot of hatchbacks go for $12-$14k and the mileage is around yours. Plus if you did buy it the value is only going to go up! Post up some pics that may help.

gambit - you said you're going to drive it...

Have you put any thought into insurance? Regular car insurance probably won't cover $20k for a vehicle like that. You'll have to find out what is available for stated value coverage OR go to a specialty car insurance company (Hagerty or similar).

With specialty insurance, the coverage will probably NOT allow just driving the car around. You'd need to be going to/from a show or event, or perhaps on a weekend joyride. Regular DD status is usually not allowed at all. And you'd have to park it inside a locked garage, etc. (a typical insurance requirement for specialty cars).

What I'm getting at is that there might be some unexpected expense in buying a car like that.

I'd like to know a little more about the car, but based on your description, $20,000 is high. If it was a low-mile car, had absolutely no paint/body work and didn't have all the chrome in the engine compartment, it might. . .might make it to $20,000.

Define what you call "low-mile". I would be it is unique to you. a 1991 is 17 years old now just in case you are not familiar with the concept 75,000 divided by 17 is 4411 miles per year. That IS a low-mile car.

The Blue Book average in determining low milse is around 15k a year. he is less than a third of that.

I'm not sure what "concept" you're referring to, but if it's simple math then, yes, I have got that mastered.

Since I consider this a low-production collectible car, my idea of low mileage is less than 20,000. I would prefer something under 10,000, though.

And, of course, each has his own idea of what is considered low mileage.
