Would that be a bad idea to get

18x9 +12 offset, 245/40/18 for the rears
and 245/40/18, 245/45/17 for the fronts

both the 17s and the 18s come with almost new set of tires.

Here is the breakdown, if I go with the 18s, the fronts would be my current wheels and the rears would be chrome Saleens.

I need to replace 2 of my tires really soon and eventually, in a week or two, would like to get a complete set of 18"s. That's why the idea of 18's sound good. I am not really concerned about the way different wheels look during this time, my concern is if the ride quality will be horrible during this time or are there any other things that I should worry about.

Sounds like a plan, the ride would only be marginally, if at all affected, and anyway, it's only temporary.

I intentionally ran a staggered setup 2 years ago when I had TSW Valencia 17x8's and 18x9.5's. As long as the tire heights are close to the same no one will ever notice a difference between the wheel sizes. Ride is completely unaffected.
