03 shifter

Does anyone know the thread size of the 03 cobra sfift knob? Does the knob fit on the aftermarket shifters ( PRO 5.0 ) or do you have to re tap and die it? Trying to make one fit on my T/A. :dw:

Your stock, Trans-Am T-56 shifter is a 16x1.5 thread.

The stock, '03 T-56 shifter is a 12x1.75 thread.

Since the Ford knob is substantially smaller in thread diameter, I see no easy way to fit one on your Trans-Am.

I know this because I am fitting a Hurst knob for the Camaro/Tran-Am T-56 on my Tri-Ax. I am having a thread insert machined to mate the two.

The stock '03 Cobra shift knob fits on a Pro-5.0 or Triax shift handle. I have it on my Pro5.0 shifter.

I have a ripper and it is 5/8-18 thread size. I guess since the 03 knob is so small my only option would be to re die the handle, which I don;t know how I could grind the threads off evenly.:dw:

Any pics of the '03 Pro 5.0 shifter handle? I have to have one that is realitvely straight up and down, like the older mustang pro 5.0s >>>

Are the threads on the older mustang pro 5.0 handles the same as the current by any chance?

Yes, the standard handle that comes on the Pro5.0 looks like the one in the picture you posted. Their medium length handle has an offset in it that brings the knob back towards the driver by about 1.25". I have some pics, but not with me here at work. Sorry.
