so my buddy has an 03 cobra SB it has 73xxx the ticking noise started after me and him ran his 03 vs my 12 5.0 the sound seems to be in the top end but already took it to a shop they pull the valve covers and no sign of damage springs or anything damage any ideas?? the tech dosent have a clue what it is

Sounds to me like he could have revved up against his limiter and bent a valve or spring. You might want to scope the cylinders and look for marks on top of the pistons. If you don't find anything then pressure test the valve springs. I definitely would not drive it.
Check your tensioners or guides on timing chain.

start with most common cobra issues..
heads.basic compression test..always first.
loose or broken plug..
tob squek rattle grind crunching
pulley bearing
stock lower pulley support rubber
oil filter rattle
