Hey there guys. i'm basically writting to ask for some advice. i've read about the different trannys out there. i have a stock 01 cobra, daily drive 85k on the clock and its time for a new tranny and im looking forward to get a T56 according to what i've read its the best out there. Is there anything else i should upgrade? like gears or something else? Thanks!

gears would be a good thing to think about. you didn't say which t56 you were thinking of, but they both have a lot taller 1st gears. the 03 cobra/viper spec t56 have the biggest difference in 1st at 2.66 vs the 3.37 on a t45/3650. the 00' cobra R t56 has a closer 2.97 1st. the rest of the gears are different between the t56 and the t45/3650 as well(except 4th, they are all 1.00), but not as extreme. either way, with the stock 3.27 rear gears 1st will be even more sluggish under 3k rpm's. i would definitely go with a 4.10 or higher(numerically).

this link will show you the ratios for the t45/3650, 03 t56, viper t56, and 00R t56. hope this helps!

would a t56 out of an fbody work in a '99 cobra? and what all would be required for the swap?

well you'd need a new bellhousing and I believe a new input shaft. They also have hydraulic clutch setups so im not sure if anything else like the tob shaft would have to be changed. Basically its more trouble than its worth.

For those saying to "go huge" on gears, the non viper t-56 has a .62 6th gear vs the .67 5th in the t45. The difference is maybe 180-200 rpm, so its not a huge difference.

I have an 03 cobra spec T-56, and I havent swapped the gears yet. I still have 3.27's. 2000RPM @ 80 on the highway.

It feels almost exactly like my T-45, except gears 1-5 are closer together, which I really like for around-town driving.

i think that would be a good combo. especially for that much lower first gear in the viper trans. my friend has a 95 5.0 with a t56 viper spec and 4.10's and it seems just about right. so a jump to 4.30's won't be much different.
