'00 Cobra R Exhaust Options

Good evening all -

I am relatively new to the site, and have seen a fair amount of posts here about Bassani cat-back upgrades for '00 R's. Sounds like a good gain can be had by this change.

Has anyone tried dropping the Borla mufflers and resonator, and connecting the ends of the x-pipe to the standard side exhaust pipes with some custom bent pipes? Do the cats provide any level of noise control?

What about performance impact?

I have to think a cats only config would be way too loud for the street. The center resonator and small mufflers on the Bassani catback are louder than the Borla center resonator and larger mufflers on the stock catback. Take either catback away and I think it would be LOUD!
