I did a search and couldn't find a thread or sticky on how to start tuning my own car. I figured I built the motor might as well do the tuning.
I don't know much about tuning other than what timing (advanced/retard), A/F ratios (lean and rich) do and what the results are when they are changed...
I know it as inevitable but now that I have done it I don't want it to happen again. I blipped the gas in 2nd and left off quick. Do stick cars throw belts more than autos?
I have the steel OEM tensioner. On my timing cover I can add a idler pulley between the alt and the power steering pump...
So just go home from the dyno and the tuner said its running out of fuel as the fuel pressure isn't going up as the boost increases. He said it could be either the pump or the regulator. So I was wondering if there is a way to confirm which one it could be.
here is my setup
5.4 DOHC...
While waiting to set a date with my tuner I'd let the car idle in the driveway. Well I would blip the gas on the TB and I noticed my alt gets pulled down by the belt. I started to think that I might throw a belt if that would happen at 7k during a shift. Anybody else run into this and if so how...
So I don't have the run of the mild blower kit on my car. I had to modify just about everything to get it to fit. But my problem is that with a 3.5" blower pulley my regular idler pulley was too big and it was hitting the blower pulley. So I tried swapping the pass side one for the smaller...
Any of you guys have/had any issues with running a centri with no power pipe or screen on the street? Car is mainly a track car but sometimes will drive to a nearby car show or friends house. I thought about putting on a power pipe but for the track I want to put a belled end of the inlet...
Won't hold an idle since I want from a lightning MAF to a 3" tube with a HPX slot style MAF. My tuner said disconnect it until I get it tuned.
I do have a question though. I was checking for leaks and what not when I noticed the tensioner was really jumping up and down. Is that normal or...
So I blew out the #3 plug and would like to repair it right. Anybody have the 5553 kit they would let me borrow? I will buy an insert on my own. I'll glady pay a loaner fee too.
Thanks.

So I got my blower pulley, idler pulleys and alt all laser aligned. Moved on to putting the crank pulley on. For some reason I can get it to go all the way back. Yes I grinded down the crank trigger sensor boss and timing marks. It's only a 12% OD pulley and I can visibly see a gap between the...
Looking for a over sized damper for my novi 5.4 mod motor. I bought ATI's 15% OD. It felt heavy so I weighed it on a bathroom scale and it's 10.9lbs. My stock one weighs 8.2lbs.
IW has a 15% OD pulley that weighs 8lbs.
I know the less rotating mass the quicker the motor revs but what I...
So I have everything mocked up but I need to find or make a 3" discharge tube that will mount my mondo. I thought vortech sold a straight pipe but all I could find is the curved one.
What are you guys doing? I presume having one specially made is the only way.
Thanks.
I don't care if it's ATI or IW. But I went to ATI's site and they have 15% but it's an Underdrive pulley. Does ATI make a 15% OD for a 4.6? Same for IW.
Thanks.
I have 2 of these pumps but was wondering if anyone has any real world results running just one. I'm curious how much 1 will support on pump gas (No E85).
Novi 2k
93 octane
Base pressure 40psi
60lb inj
Thanks.

I have a stock return system but I think it's smaller than -6 so I wanted to drill a hole on top and put a -8 return line with some type of elbow.
Has anyone ever done this before?
It would seem easier than cutting off the stock return and welding a new line.
Thanks.

So I have an aviator pump now but I will be running 2 in tank pumps. A new aviator is 200$ but I can get a Walboro 465 pump for 138$ shipped. I figured with both it would give me over 700lph. That should be all the fuel I want. But is it ok to run 2 different pumps? I would use a Y block outside...
I have a 5.4 in my 98. Trying to get a measurement from center to center of either 2 things. 1. the collector on long tubes or 2. The center to center of an off-road x pipe. I emailed Borla but haven't heard anything yet Trying to see if their x pipe (or any x pipe for that matter) will bolt up...
Selling my set of convo's.
The fronts have Sportsman Pros on them. Have plenty of tread left on them. They have been stored in a climate control storage for about 4yrs and still have air in hem.
The rear's are drilled for screws but I will NOT be selling them with the screws. The slicks...

I haven't researched it much but I was wondering if there is a single in tank pump that would support over 600rwhp. Right now I have an aviator and was probably going to modify my basket to fit another one but didn't know if there was any big single out there. I know that Walboro came out with a...
Handheld tuners......they worth a damn?
I've always wondered if they are any good. I have a custom tuned chip now that I could adjust but I have never used one before so don't know how good they are. Thanks.

I need to know the length from the top keeper groove to the tip of the stem. Not a tape measure reading. Need it to be down to the thousandths. If you have the keepers and a retainer on, that would probably be preferred. Thanks.

Project: STUPID UNICORN!!!! (Pic heavy) DYNO'd
I think you can figure out the meaning behind the title after you read the thread. lol.
Disclaimer: Long thread ahead......check gas.
Since I pretty much reached the end of the road ET wise for the stocker I put cams in it. It made 355rwhp...
Well it looks like my 12yr old motor is finally done. Too bad I won't be able to see what it does after I put cams in it. I noticed some fluid under my front pass tire and it was my caliper that was leaking (due to lack of use over the years) but I noticed some oil on my header. Started it up...
