I'm curious how yours is holding up underneath salt/rust wise. Mine is parked every winter.

You can throw the entire summit catalog at em. AFAIK 10R80's start to slip around 700rwhp but at the same time, you can get a 10R80 car into the 10's with headers, a tune, E85 and drag radials. It's impressive what they can do, just different things to factor in when building up a gen 3 vs a gen 2.

It isn't difficult to add Sync 3 to a non sync car if it really comes down to it but hold out longer for the right car. It looks to me like the used car market is starting to shift downward so you might get lucky and find a better deal soon.

If you're going to buy a modded S550 make sure you give it a real good look over in person. Recently a guy on Mustang6G bought a "stock" 16 GT from Florida and had it shipped to where he lived in the midwest, he received a car that had clearly been extensively modded at one time and beat on, it barely ran off the car hauler. Turns out its basically down 2 cylinders. The dealer never disclosed any of this and basically told him to go eat ass.

I know of someone else on that site bought a Roush RS1 ecoboost which he later found out someone swapped a junkyard sourced 2.0L Fusion ecoboost in place of the original 2.3L motor.
Its actually pretty clean. I did swap our the cradle for a BMR piece last spring si that is newer. The rear has rust on the steeda IRS braces. I'll try to remember to take a pic this weekend when I change the oil. I do get the underbody wash from the touchless carwash in Wilmington on days it gets above freezing.

Yessssiir. She'd trap well into the 120's with those mods.
I did find a little more out about the car. It did run an E85 tune and hit 7.28/98 in the 1/8. Stock motor. Absolutely amazed they can run that well with minimal work. Around 4k worth of Steeda suspension including adjustable shocks and their anti hop kit. Owner said he made 12-16 passes at the strip, no idea how much he street raced it.

Would you be afraid to buy this car? Former owner is in his mid fifties, sold the car to the dealer to fund a fox body buy.

For me, it's all about how the car was cared for. Interior condition, paint, mechanical issues addressed immediately, etc etc.

Case in point. I bought an 05 Tahoe with 275k miles on it from a retired dentist down in San Diego. Damn thing has more miles than most of my fleet combined. He was fanatical about maintenance on this truck and had dealer records back to when it was new. Interior looks like a 50k mile truck.

I bought it immediately.

Id have a look at that mustang and see how well it was cared for. I don't mind that it was drag raced. Shit -- that's why we buy these things. Now.. if there are obvious signs of abuse (scratched undercarriage, scratches/dents not attended to, mechanical noises, dirty oil or trans fluid, trans that shifts with a flare) then all bets are off.

From all appearances, car has been very well taken care of. Exterior is 9.5/10 (has a tiny little dent on top of rear fender, something fell on it looks like). Has maybe three rock chips on nose that have been touched up. No signs of scraping or anything like that on the bottom side. I even looked under the nose and no signs of it riding up on a curb/high sidewalk. Black painted wheels are perfect. Interior is 10/10. He added a JLT 3.0 catch can to the pass side. Only imperfection I've seen under the hood is the hood insulation looks a bit rough. Original owner said it was fine when he had it, guessing the dealership cleanup shop hit with pressure washer or something. definitely been garage kept, moldings and such look new. Beads water well, but shop could have waxed.

Did you drive it by chance?

-Stock or mods but plan to keep N/A -- 18+ 5.0 is the pinnacle s550. They will trap 125 mph with mild bolt ons and probably last literally forever at that power level. All while getting great MPG. This config is absolutely an overachiever. Great cars.

^This, Gen 3 Coyote.
Personally, I wouldn't touch an EB in anything. I plan on offing our 3.5L EB Explorer soon.

Yes. Planning on doing so again this afternoon. What do I need keep an eye out for?

Any hesitations/hiccups, check fluids to ensure theyre clean/fresh. Knowing it's been raced, ask him if he'd allow a compression test. Pop oil filler cap off and just rest it on top of the fill neck while the car is running and see if/how much blow by is present at idle.

Check the catch can to see how much oil is inside, or evidence that he recently cleaned it before you arrived.

No hesitation. Fluids good. No blowby, fill cap set there just fine. Can’t get the catch can apart, hotter than firecracker. I’ll check it tomorrow, I have it for overnight inspection.

I’ve put 25 miles on it so far. Nothing to report. Had a few rock chips on hood and nose, nothing out of ordinary. I think the damaged hood insulation is from overzealous pressure wash cleanup at dealership.

Pulled catch can. Had take the engine cover off due to awkward position. It had maybe 1/8” of pretty much pure oil from what I could tell. No milkshake/condensation, nor any gas smell. Here’s a couple of pics. Car has had 100 miles put on it since dealer got it, so I have to think it wasn’t emptied before selling it to the dealer. So, how much/little oil is normal for a catch can in a mostly mild climate?

Looks normal to me. That oil is captured originally as vapors once it cools down its accumulates as oil at the bottom of the can.

Looks good!

Also... I doubt the dealer emptied it before you got it. :)

Guaranteed they didn’t empty it. They did do an oil change, and this wasn’t fresh oil either. If we get the car, I’ll drill and tap and put a drain on the bottom. Pita to loosen up.

Prob going to pass on it unless they come way down on price. Car was 39k new, and 35k was offer. It’s a nice car but it’s also four years old.

I’ve got a few buddies on lookout, will keep everyone updated. It’s a nice car, just don’t want to overpay on it.

You guys have been super helpful figuring out what to look for. I can look at foxbodies but don’t know diddly about 550’s.

The values stayed strong on S550's in the pandemic and post-pandemic car market. My 16 GT PP I could have easily sold for 30-32 anytime during the pandemic.

I don't know what the values are going to do now with the S650's out, I expect things will drop but I don't expect them to absolutely tank.

Also your catch can photos don't look concerning at all, looks very normal.

Got that oil change done. Here is 103k of daily driven through winters for 6 years, 4 of those winters were on continental extremecontacts 305/35r20 and 315s this last winter. Steeda braces are rusting other than that pretty clean. I'll probably clean up the light surface rust starting this spring and hit it with 2k primer. Definitely dont be afraid to drive and enjoy these cars
