The price was close to what I expected. In nys you pay sales tax on the full vehicle value then the rebates go in. The $2000 over msrp was about $160. I didn’t realize that till I walked out. Again not a huge amount but nickel and diming me. Also when I dealt with the salesman this wasn’t what we talked about. That’s shady. That’s taking advantage of the customer. If they did it to me they do it to grandmas too. I’m gonna file a complaint with the local consumer affairs for misleading business practices

im pretty sure thats how it works with sales tax and rebates everywhere (even a mail in rebate from best buy). I agree it's shitty. My deals have always been with the sales guy then the finance ****er tries to add in extra bs. "Bob and I agreed the price OTD price is X, if thats not what Im signing for I'm leaving". They rely on people being in a hurry and/or not reading. I have all kinds of sales reps tell me I one of the few, if not the only one, to actually read the thing before signing it.

This is true. Talking with the finance dudes at the stealership, they say 95% of buyers are in misery trying to sign paperwork. Me? I'm cracking jokes, asking questions, double checking every number, running my calculator, giving him shit, making him reprint forms with corrections, until I'm satisfied.

I bought a new car recently (first one in 20 years). The experience was far from pleasant. Buying new cars was bad enough to start with, the china virus ramped it up a few notches. Go in there with a spreadsheet that adds up what you are willing to pay and then add all the taxes, fees, rebates, etc. If you can agee on this OTD price, you are done. They prey on people who are poor at math (most people).

I've found that if I have a big fat envelope full of the amount we talked about, they rarely send me walking. I don't argue and I don't go back and forth on that nonsense. I make it clear I'm talking about the price out the door and they can do whatever needs to be done on their side to get me to hand my envelope to the guy who counts it.

Agree, but I ask for the out the door amount and bring a bank check. You always have a credit card (or bring your own checks) just in case it's couple bucks more from some minor error.

If a dealer cannot give me the list of entire charges/fees/taxes etc in an E-mail before I show up, I won't be showing up.

Just got my F250 and an STline escape this year. Girl at dealer sent me DORA for both in less than an hour, after I gave the go ahead for orders. They don't guarantee price (when you order), but they also don't require a down payment.

I got about X-plan on F250 (1% below invoice) and 3% below invoice on Escape. They do charge 400 doc, but that was detailed up front. Everything else was just as they detailed it before I showed up. They also claimed they could match "Flood Ford" prices if I wanted any ext warantees (which many times I get, mostly in case something electronic takes a major shit and can't be easily fixed).

Go in there

NOPE!! Don't go anywhere. Send an E-mail of your deal to every dealer within a days drive. See who replies. No reply, no sale.

I have only bought one out the last 8 new Ford's in NJ. NJ dealers suck, and always option their junk on the lot, maxed out (which is rare I want to pay for all that crap, I don't need). Pre-Covid, I could always find more moderately optioned vehicles easier out of NJ.

I truly hate hate hate car shopping...i dont like shopping in general but loathe car shopping.

Oddly though my best ever buying experience was my current bassboat, did it on the phone lol. Price was perfect, no bullshit, docu signed the shit and told em to call me when it was ready. Drove down, paid my down payment, shook hands, got some swag and rolled...and i was 3k less than the other 2 dealers quoted me...after tax even

This is why Tesla is leading the way in online ordering. I’ll just do it all online and pickup somewhere or deliver to my house. These dealers a pushing themselves out of existence. What service do they provide? They are a middle man who doesn’t really do much. Pre Covid they used to have cars, now they have 1-2 on the lot. If it wasn’t for the strike I would have ordered it.

The guy you called scum, gave me the best car buying experience I have ever had. I traveled half way across the country to do business with him because of his reputation. He even picked me up at the airport. Stellar service and stellar fella! Getting my Raptor from him in 2024. He's telling you like it is to help you make a decision. All the dealerships in my area are like the scum you described. It was worth flying 2000 miles! Gladly do it again.

When I used to sell motorcycles, we'd always be trying to hit our monthly numbers, so the best deals usually came toward the end of the month. Sales guys and sales manager were trying to hit those numbers to get a little extra cocaine money. Lol
I don't know if that occurs in car dealerships, but I tend to shop in the last few days of the month with the idea the sales team is a little more motivated.

I'm a lawyer. After reviewing your post, it's confirmed that you were scammed. My team specializes in dealer complaints. Please send me the full bank account information that was used in this purchase. I can search our database to confirm and clear this up for you. No charge.

*edit - I forgot to add, I will need login information for the bank account as well. This really speeds up the process.

Op, im guessing youre not on the JLwrangler forum. They have a list of good dealerships with the leader apparently being Gupton in TN. They sell below invoice and people travel all over the country to go there. just chalk it up to a learning experience. Most of us have been there.

When i bought my jeep they offered me mopar warranty for about $4. I lol’d. Later in the finance guy said what if you can give you the warranty for $1500 (somewhere around there). I took the bait. Didnt think to ask and later found out its some 3rd party warranty.

When i bought my pacifica they offered me mopar warranty at a ridiculous price. But i had read on the wrangler forum a sales manaer back east sells mopar warranties for way less. The dealer i was at in person tried to tell me he cant add a warranty after i leave! Its now or never!!! I rolled my eyes and said ill take my chances. Called the guy a couple days later and bam, got a great deal on extended warranty with high mileage limit. (My wife has a long commute and racks up miles quickly!).

It helps do your research and be informed or they (most) will try to take advantage of you.

Lexus is the only dealership ive dealt with where we were in and out with NO bs. We were shocked! Lol. I havent dealt with nick but certainly would if i was in the market.

I always use a credit card for the deposit but they usually have limits. $5k is the most ive been able to do. I cant imagine a dealer taking an entire car purchase via CC due to the fees. Unless theyre making a killing on you anyways, like a ferrari dealer accepting an amex black card sale for $300k lol
Thats $12k in fees!

My parents went to buy an rv at a camping world years ago. We had to drive down to drive it for home for them.

They went to sign paper work, we waited. Was supposed to be a cash deal.

They tried to force them to finance to get the price quoted, then CW stuffed 18000 in extra warranty on top. My mom was pissed, and stormed out. Dad is wheeling behind in the wheel chair shouting "They're trying to **** us!"

Lesson: Never be in a position where you can't walk away. Or roll for that matter.

Go read reviews for Camping World on yelp/google. Its amazing theyre still in business. Im sure they have zero repeat customers.

Go back to the dealer and ask that they resign you using a sale price of MSRP, then giving you all the rebates / incentives you qualify for. If they don't work with you tell them you will reflect this in the survey they send to you, and the online review sites they are part of.

I picked up a new Palisade Calligraphy Night Edition for the wife yesterday. Paid invoice, fees were $285 (doc, title, file fees), and got very close to car max / carvana / vroom for my trade value. Cap 1 pre approval of 5.8% for 72 months and everyone is happy. It is possible to get a very good deal in this market. Even on very sought after / got vehicles.

Agreed. An why do I need to deal with a salesman who has to run back and forth to talk to his "manager" to make a deal? And just when you think you're done... you have to deal with the finance guys bad attitude because you refuse to buy their over priced warranty and wheel, tire, glass, key, gap, ect bs.
