I honestly have no idea what it weighs, but I just don't see how it can weigh much less than a GT500 CFTP. CF body panels and mag wheels aside, it's going to require a lot of cooling, and it's got a bunch of hydraulic shit in it, and that brings weight. BS was around 3,600, static ride height, 285 fronts/335 rear, around 900 lbs of downforce which you can definitely feel on a track. BS does have a pull out front splitter that (shock) Multimatic produced for the car. Otherwise the wing has a small active element.

The trade off for GTD is that the aero in the low mode of the suspension will undoubtedly make for a monster of a car at that ride height. FGT is a different car in track mode and this will be similar. I figure it'll be well north of 1,000 lbs of downforce at 150 and it's got a lot of front/underbody aero going on with absolutely monstrous tires. Should be a real beast.

I was excited to see they put some real tires on it!

I wondered from the moment I heard that Ford was going with Pirelli on the S650 if it was because they beat Michelin's bid. The Trofeo is a heck of a tire but better than a Cup2 variant? "Better" can be a subjective term but I'm wondering what metrics the Pirelli may or may not have been better at. The fact that the GTD is using a Michelin is indeed interesting.

I believe it's as simple as "CUP 2R" ; they're the ultimate qualifier / magazine #s tire. If you want to post the best laptime for a street-legal vehicle, there is only one choice right now.

I will be very interested to see how the GTD fares against the MBZ black series. I'm sure Ford has that and the GT3RS in mind when benchmarking the GTD, and I wouldn't be surprised if the GTD is the fastest of the bunch because of its aero and additional tire.

Maybe DBK and I can have a friendly track shootout once the GTD arrives.

Never mind the oem tire, this thing will likely perform perfect on the Pirelli DH slicks due to the shocks

I've gone back and forth with Pirelli and Michelin slicks on my car. I find that the newer compound for Michelin, N3, don't fall off as fast.

That is interesting as I have seen mentioned in print, that exact same reason, for why engineers favor the latest Pirelli. On the street tires, anyway.

I never understood the obsession over OEM tires. I remember back in the day dudes be arguing about Evo vs STI and who had more grip on OEM tires. Like, it's a consumable.

Don't fall off as fast as the DH? I have no experience with the N3. I find all slicks fall off after 1 HC anyway lol

It's a very unfortunate part of magazine testing...

Yea, apples and bananas. But in the lightweight formula car world the Pirelli is only an OK slick which lasts slightly longer than the many quicker options.

I agree with that. With the Pirellis I could get about 8 cycles before they were 4-5 seconds/lap slower. With the Michelins I can get 10-12 before they fall off the same.

I do think the Pirellis from 1-4 are faster, not by a lot, but some.

Interesting, isn't the Michelin a medium compound? Were you adjusting setup between brand swaps?

A bit OT, but I've run both Michelin and Pirelli hard compound slicks on my 488 GT3 back in 2018 . The Michelins were about 1 sec/lap faster than the Pirellis and were good past 200km, while the Pirellis fell off significantly (2-3 sec/lap) after 150km. Both were perfectly useable until about 250km.

These days I run Pirelli DHs on the 458 Challenge cars, and Michelin S8 (medium) on the 488 GT cars. No issues with either.

I can agree, that that's accurate.
