Had that done to ours a few months ago and it leaked bloody water for a good bit, lol.

oh that's fun, she's only had bloody water come out once and it wasn't much but still freaked me out
She gets 300ml twice a week, I put my thumb over it for a minute or two when taking the needle out and as long as I keep her from rolling around on her back it doesn't usually drip much, if at all.
Yeah they said she was dehydrated and they gave her some water and I was like ok.....what they hell happened to my dog?? HAHA

Today makes 9 years with the hound and she’s roughly 10. Stopped at the vet and weighed her on the way to go swimming, she’s put back all the weight she’d lost.

Currently sitting back at the emergency room vet getting more blood work done, then possible ultra sounds / x rays for Brianna. She had some dark red, blackish poop today. Been here for 2 hours waiting for results on things. Legs shaking.
hopefully they can get her all fixed up
After about 4 hours at the vet. They’re thinking she might have “Melena”. Could also be an Ulcer. They gave me 3 antibiotics, and told me she was really dehydrated from the diarrhea. If she doesn’t do better by tomorrow at 3pm they want to hospitalize her.

Two - damn, the vet I use is generally regarded as pricey and that’s way worse. I mean that could just be the price down there. My dog did two 36hour stays, IVs the whole time, X-rays, bag of kidney diet food, nausea meds, appetite meds, multiple blood tests, etc and it was around $1500
Just googled it but there has to be something bleeding to cause melena. Maybe a simple ulcer would be the best case/easiest to treat

You mean from my name on the form I had to sign? Yeah, I didn’t think too much of it. Just shared it truthfully. Just so blank minded with it all.
I’m really hoping that’s the case. Without posting gross stuff, this is what she left as a surprise this morning. I’m really hoping these medications can solve this quickly and without much pain, or discomfort from her.
They also informed me of her deteriorating muscle in her hips, she doesn’t have much muscle left. It will be bone on bone soon and that will cause her tremendous pain. I knew that day would come, and I promised myself that when it did I would make the call to put her to rest. I wanted her to have the best life given her circumstances. It’s about the quality of life, not the quantity.

Agreed on quality vs quantity. I’ve been mulling around where I’ll have to draw the line one her sub q fluid treatments. I see people doing it twice a day and I just don’t agree with that

They'll surprise you. We got her when she was estimated to be 4-5yrs old and we had her 12 years. We thought our time with her was coming to an end when she was 14 but she kept going and that was after a major surgery when she was 11ish to remove a mast cell tumor from near her abdominal area that appeared and rapidly grew to the size of a baseball.
This was our girl, about 5 months before we said goodbye.

with kidney failure it seems they really can't predict anything since every dog is so different. She was stage 4 at diagnosis which apparently usually only means a couple of months at most but dogs at various stages can make it a year or more so who knows. We're about 4 months in so far and she's kicking ass on the current treatment

Just a little update on Brianna. The water they gave her in her back with IV had finally settled in. Her back is normal again. She’s been drinking a little bit more. She didn’t eat last night. I began her meal prep this morning for her “bland diet”. Boiled her up some chicken, and made her rice. Will do this for the next 5-7 days. She still hasn’t pooped since yesterday. Which I’ll take as a good sign since she isn’t having diarrhea.
hopefully that's all good news.
I think I might have the only dog that doesnt like rice, she would pick the chicken out, wasn't interested in the rice at all.

Hey man, she’s doing okay today. She still seems low on appetite. Vet said that would be common because of the ulcer affecting her stomach and gastrointestinal stuff. However she’s been being a good girl and taking her medicine, and eating her meal prep. It was the boiled chicken, and bland rice. I was worried because she hadn’t pooped in 48 hours, however she finally did and it was normal, and not diarrhea. Never felt so relieved to see dog shit in my life let me tell ya. One day at a time man! She’s back in diapers for her incontinence as well, vet wanted to stop those medications while we focus on the ulcer. Thank you so much for asking!

I know exactly what ya mean, mine had it bad from the kidney stuff so had to keep an eye on that and just being relieved to come home and see she finally wasn’t throwing up
