I am thinking of selling my cobra and lightning to buy 2012-2014 zl1 Camaro. Reason is I went way over board on the cobra and lightning. I driven the cobra 200 miles in 2 years about a tank a year. Also don’t have time to drive them both I am thinking about getting one fairly new car. Not for nothing but a cam in a LS, nothing sounds better IMO.. what’s your thoughts?

Would you drive the Camaro any more than you do the Cobra? If not, why sell? But it’s yours to decide, only you know the right choice.

ballparking a 12-14 zl1 is mid 40s. A 8-10 year old car isn’t something new but is newer than what you’re have. I bring this up (Playing devils advocate) because something 8 9 10ish years old has room for error of margin not just in the CarFax. What mean by that is, you know what your stuff is, how’s it’s been use, maintenance etc etc. Unless of coarse you find a low mileage or a 1 owner car (different story). You just never know how something been run. But I’ve seen prime examples of zl1, it’s definitely a good daily if that’s your intentions.

Is that all you’re looking at? A Shelby 350 or a M3 would probably give you smiles too.

You "think" you would drive it more. And you're talking about $48K for a used car you know little about, except for what might be disclosed. Something tells me you won't break the low miles habit you've formed with your Cobra/Lightning, but it's your choice. The fact that it only has 5K miles on it CAN be a plus, unless it was routinely raced over those 5K miles. The more info about how it was driven you can get, the more comfortable you might be with the purchase. Find out if the owner is a member of any forums and maybe do some searching. Just a thought.

Just curious. What is your daily driver now?

If you are getting rid of the mustang, that Camaro would be one to get.

I keep watching the 2010+ SS market.

Those camaro’s are fun to drive, I’ll admit. I’ve driven a few. Have a die hard chevy buddy. Truth be told he’s the one who got me looking into a Chevy SS. I’ve tinkered around and drive them new Zl1 camaro’s. Those are a blast if you’ve got the pocket change for them. I have to agree with @CobraBob your cars you know the most about, how you’ve driven them, maintained them, etc. Low miles is a blessing and a curse. I spent more time finding little demons with my 19k mile Coupe than I did with my 55k mile black coupe. Often times it’s better to have the devil you know, than the devil you don’t know. I understand not driving them and them sitting also, I have the same issue. I try and switch it up and drive different cars to work when given the opportunity. Also like was stated you’re unsure if you’d drive it more than the others. So another thing to question would be. Do you not drive them due to the miles, or because you don’t like to drive them? Same would apply for that 5k mile ZL1 you sent. If it’s the miles thing you’re back in the same boat sir. Nevertheless do what makes you feel happy.

That SS sedan is a bmw stomper.
I am watching those too.
That or the G8.

But this is a ZL1...difficult choice as you have said...

OP: There are still guys trying to get their Terminators back...

Hell, some guys regret selling their 99 green cobras even..

If it doesn't have to be a ZL1 and you want to get rid if the truck...maybe get a cheaper Camaro..compromise...and keep your terminator.

That ZL1 will probably be driven as little as the Terminator because it will be just as dear to you..you are already talking about the value of it in the future.

This is how guys start getting car collections...

I’ve only been without a cobra for about 8 months. Then I bought another one with instant regret of selling. All I’m saying is I understand the thought behind it. Maybe sell the lightning and your truck you have now unless it’s for work related purposes ? If you’re concerned about values I’d say the fact the cobras were only made 2 years would make me think the value on those would be greater. ZL1’s are still produced. This is exactly how I have a car collection going on. I tend to add not subtract. Now if you said the Z/28 14-15 I’d say jump haha. Issue with the SS for me at the Moment is I love coupes. I say that as I’m sitting in my hellcat charger typing this of course haha. I just know they’re a blast. I think OP will make the best decision for himself in due time. Give it time and think it over some more. You own the 2 SVT’s presumably so.

My wife owns a 14 vert ZL1. All options for that year. Auto. Summit White. We bought it in April of 2020 for an absolute steal. Bone stock, 1 owner 18k miles.

Overall, she wanted something that was fairly comfortable, vert, auto option (unfortunately) made decent power out of the box and was in the price range she wanted to spend. A 5th gen ZL1 fit the bill. Its a great weekend cruiser for sure.

My take: It handles fantastic, good power in stock form, stock audio system is great, seats are comfortable, build quality is fairly good, ride quality is great. Its a blast ripping through the mountains here is CO with the top down. IMO, its a great driver out of the box. I really don’t have any complaints other than it would be even better if it was a 6 speed and the visibility isn’t great.

Mod wise i have just added a Rotofab intake and a Corsa Batback. The intake definitely woke it up and the blower wine is much louder.

Older pic before getting it put away before winter. Removed the retarded front plate bracket.

For those trying to use buying a used car as a reason not to jump, how many of you bought your Cobras brand new? Most of us bought them used. Like anything else give it a good inspection and if it has maintenance records that's all the better. At the end of the day it's always buyer beware.

I was pretty close to jumping ship a little over a year ago. Then I looked around and saw how difficult it would be to get another Mystichrome should I change my mind.

Those newer Camaros are ugly. They look massive compared to other cars

You think you might drive it more, but will you? I just said the same thing about the 2019 GT 350 we just bought .

Is this the same camaro that AL O. wrote an apology letter to the GM community saying he was sorry that the car got destroyed by the 2013 GT500?

Yes. Which is hilarious because i own a 14 gt500 and give her shit over it. Back in 2012, there was tons of drama on camaro5 over the fact the 13 GT500 crushed the 5th gen ZL1
