Some pretty serious shit for Ford, this stuff gets planned years out. Gotta be some puckered asses in Ford HQ tonight. Wonder what LG Chem will demand to make the "problem" go away?

Ford, Volkswagen EV battery supplier defeated in trade secrets case
  • SK Innovation's Korean-made batteries will be banned from the U.S. for 10 years, the U.S. International Trade Commission rules in a decision that threatens to disrupt plans by Ford (NYSE:F) and Volkswagen (OTCPK:VWAGY) to build electric vehicles in the U.S.
  • LG Chem, also from Korea, has accused SK Innovation of stealing trade secrets related to lithium-ion battery production, and the ITC's order affirmed a judge's earlier ruling that the import ban was the appropriate punishment for SK's destroying evidence that LG Chem said it needed to prove its case.
  • The ITC's ruling threatens two new battery plants SKI is building in Georgia to supply Ford and VW with batteries for models set to go into production in the next two years, and complicates efforts by the Biden administration to boost domestic battery and electric vehicle construction.
  • Today's ruling starts the clock on a 60-day review period for the White House, and SKI can appeal the decision in U.S. federal court.
  • Ford "may become an electric vehicle 'meme' stock, and an investor can get extra juice through an options strategy," The Private Island Saver writes in a bullish new analysis posted on Seeking Alpha.

There's already a chip shortage so the entire electronics industry is hurting. They're probably screwed but if Ford can get it sorted out relatively soon they may be able to recover some ground considering GM is being limited by the chip shortage as well. It's the reason why you can't get a PS5 for MSRP right now either.

Focus on gas then. EV are gonna have a hard time in a world where electricity is in short supply. CA can't keep the lights on and buys the difference from other states, but that only goes so far. Lack of new nuclear plants countrywide because of NIMBYs and dumb states pushing renewables that have poor output to cost ratio are further impacting the issue.

Strangely yesterday, I saw the 1st Mach E, that I have seen, on the streets. The strange part, it had a Michigan "M" plate on it. Very normal to see manufacture plates in Michigan, not so much in Massachusetts.

I've been trying to buy a RTX 3070 or 3080 since November. This chip shortage is insane

I dont feel sorry at all. Hopefully this will be the beginning of the push back for all electric vehicles becoming forced on everyone.

Gonna take a LOT of grid failures and other mayhem to get the decree's to stop.

Ford's EV plans were in trouble the instant they said,

"Yeah, let's call it a Mustang"

Uh, no. Calling it a Mustang gave it a chance with all the people who would never have given Ford a thought for an EV if they called it ANYTHING else.

I think the biggest issue to tackle will be the infrastructure and materials to support EV. I don't see it happening without an extremely high cost to consumers for both electricity and overall battery cost.

I feel like the whole "EV is the future" thing is running on hopes and dreams at this point because I have never seen a feasible plan on how this will be accomplished by 2030.

Of course when bringing up these concerns, you will get the tired "Okay Boomer" response from some.

another article I saw said they would be allowed to import parts/materials for domestic production (US) for VW for 2 years and 4 years for Ford. Still not good overall
