Hi guys! So i am in the market for a 13-14 GT500. I just moved to CO from MI last week and as luck would have it, I found a car that is optioned the way I want (PP, TP and Rec's. (even has nav and shaker pro which didn't matter to me))

I checked out the car yesterday and it runs great and sounds great. Car has just over 20k miles, 2 owner and in great shape other than it needs a paint correction IMO. Clean car fax and all dealer performed maintenance. Michelin Pilot Sports with 8k on them. We agreed on a price and I gave him a deposit to hold it. Mods are Corsa axle back and FRPP res delete.

It happened pretty fast and didn't expect to pick anything up until next spring but this came along so I went to check it out.

My questions/concerns are:

Is there anything should look at before buying?

Is there anyway to tell if the car had a pully on it or the car was demoded? I am not totally concerned as because the 2nd owner picked it up with 8k miles and it now has around 20k. However he picked the car up from a dealer in Dallas and the Corsa and FRPP res delete came on the car. He doesn't know any other history beyond that. Being perfectly honest, I have 0 plans to mod the car beyond what is on it. Those are the mods I would have done if the car was stock.

There's more knowledgeable folks in here than me.

Look for any marring or scratches on the the hub. Look at screws and bolts that hold TB and stuff for marring, chips evidence.

IIRC, those 2 mods DO NOT require a retune/ delete and mufflers.

I always, no matter the mileage, get a compression check done.
Cheap piece of mind.

Finally, inspect the car on a lift with a bright ass LED light and small inspection mirror. I truly believe in this. I also like the reaction is gets from a seller. Makes em nervous af.

I think your good though.

Again, LED LIGHT is your friend

Sounds like a solid car. When most do the pulley they also do the intake and throttle body and that requires a tune. Based on what you describe, it sounds like it hasn't been touched. Post a pic of the engine compartment for everyone to see. If you look closely at the pulley there is a plastic push button in the front that shouldn't have any damage.

I was thinking of getting a compression test done before i pick it up Sunday just for piece of mind like you said. Just gotta find a good shop.

If there is a mid pipe, would that need a tune?

Thank you. I did look at the pully and the black push button looks untouched. I just texted him to send me one. He removed the ad already because i have a deposit on the car.

Tom

Can you or did you verify it's running a stock tune ??

Can i go to a Ford dealership for that?

You would need a tune if the midpipe had no cats aka an off road mid pipe, X or H.

SHAKER is a good feature, you won't miss it if you don't have it.....but you will if you had it and then don't. One can't ride on exhaust tone alone. I can't anyway. Good luck in your search!

Do you live in an emissions area in Colorado? Metro Denver and Northern CO will require an emissions test. I would just make sure it can pass if you have to register it in a county that requires it.

Good looking out on that. It has cats!

Ok, I’m in the metro Denver area. The car is local to me. Previous owner had no issue with emissions.

Just picked it up this afternoon. Everything checks out. Couldn’t be happier honestly. I’m actually blown away. Incredible car. Looking forward to hanging out in this section.

Edit: crappy iPhone pic. Going to get to paint correction and ceramic coated next spring (any suggestions in the Denver metro area?)

Very nice GT500. You can always swap in a different stereo system if you aren't worried about originality, etc. Admittedly, the Shaker system in mine is not as good as the stereo system in my 4Runner. But that doesn't bother me much. I drive the GT500 without the stereo most of the time.

This. I am on my 2nd GT500 first a 2014 and now a 2013. Have never had the stereo on in either one of them. That 5.8L engine is enough music for my ears. But after having a 1986 Comp Prep SVO, 93 Cobra R and 95 Cobra R without stereo systems I am well used to it. My 2013 does have the Shaker system.

Ok I really REALLY hate to ask this but my coolant reservoir is about 1/2 inch low. My OCD won't let that sit to next spring and want to top it off to FULL. I know the manual calls for VC-3DIL-B Motorcraft ORANGE, however it is my understanding that it is discontinued? From my research it says I can mix the yellow? Is that true? Current color is a redish/orange'ish color right now

Ask them right away if they plan on ceramic coating OVER the matte black stripes? If they say yes, stay away. Ceramic on matte black is bad.

Welcome to the 13/14 section. Car looks good and would be a color choice for me

I have had 3 Shelbys now.
2 had the base stereo. My current one has the Shaker 1000. I wouldn't do a Shelby w/o now after having it. Kinda like I would never NOT own a glass roof Shelby.

Love my pants leg vibrating from the door speaker while ripping 107mph down the interstate with Godsmack / 5FDP playing.

You can polish the matte black stripes; and wax them; and ceramic coat them.

I was hesitant to do mine initially but they were pretty torn up (visually) from the previous owner so i figured if it came out like poo I'd just remove and paint them on; no issues so far; they don't react the same to polish/wax/coating as matte black paint does (i.e., they remain matte black, no shiney spots)
