Tough choice, but I’d lean towards the R. That or look for a nice C6Z. LS7 is a monster when played with. Another option is a Gen V Viper.

Pick your poison.

Not unpopular to folks that arent brand loyal fanbois.

The ATSV is a bad bitch. I will have one some day.
It sure is. I came very close to selling my wagon for a manual ATS-V. That car impressed me. It's smaller a significantly smaller car with more interior legroom and vastly better interior quality. The GT350 was just awful. It broke my heart driving that car.

I also can't help but raise an eyebrow at the GT350, without the Shelby hype, would it be just a modern 99/01 Cobra? That track/handling focused car that was completely over shadowed by the C5Z and Terminator?

From a previous owner (01 Cobra) I've thought that about the 99/01 Cobra as well in comparison with the GT350.

C8 z51 for sure. The gt350 is kinda old news to me now.

I don’t care about either cars actual track prowess. A few tenths difference of magazine times at the tracks is useless information to me.

The GT350R rides pretty plush in comparison to a ‘13 GT500. Are you only referring to interior quality?

Cruising around town? C8

How competitive are the track events? Vette will certainly provide more consistency at the very least. But, do you want the car to do half the work for you or do you enjoy driving the car? Apple to oranges comparison IMO.

Based on all the hype and price point, I fear the C8 will be just as common as a Toyota Camry. So if you don't mind seeing your car drive by you everywhere you go, Vette. Not bashing by any means! Just that I personally like having something I don't see copies of every day and the OP's looking for opinions.

Unless you are doing wheel-to-wheel racing or time attack, the track events I'd assume are HPDEs where competition doesn't matter. At the end of a HPDE, you aren't going to get a trophy lol. They want drivers to have fun, not have red mist. I am not sure how you mean by the Corvette will be more consistent....consistency depends on the driver, not the car.

Consistency in terms of auto (with several modes I'm sure) vs manual. You're absolutely right that the driver is key. I just meant they play a much larger role with a manual trans which can leave more room for mistakes.

Yeah, more HPDE type of things. I dont want the car to drive itself but I want to feel engeaged with the whole experience also.

I also envision some fall cruises, country drive, beach areas, etc etc

In reference to the interior I'm referring to the quality of materials as well as the fit in terms of road noise transmission, creaking and rattling, etc. The clutch, shifter, seating position, ride, and visibility were all better in the ATS-V as well. The manual version of the ATS-V is a better car that's a lot more fun to drive IMO. I would have never thought that before driving both cars.

I’m heavy on the 350R sauce at the moment, but this is only as of recent when we finally took it to the track. imo the 350 is perfect for HPDE events. It may not be the fastest, but very well may be the most fun and satisfying to lap.
The day we tracked it, I was back to back in the R and a c7zr1. Did four, 30 min sessions with Shelby; zero brake fade, the power, cooling, it was all there. I later passed on a session in the zr1 to drive the 350r again. they had to flag me off the track each session bc I didn’t want to come in. It’s a forgiving, but fast car. You can throw it around a bit, full throttle 2nd gear mid corner and not get loose, stand on the brakes with confidence....it was a blast. Honestly if we tracked it back in January, I would have a 350R in my garage now and not a 2nd terminator. But my Dad has one so its about as good lol!
I don’t know much, nor have I even seen a c8, but the Vette, most certainty, Is better in terms of build quality, technology, balance, maybe even lap times. I don’t think you can go wrong with either, but they are totally different cars. With that said, about everyone I know is looking to get into a c8 right now or wait for the later trims. I think c8’s will become very common on the road, as they should be, but will lose some specialness.
But, at the end of the day, the 350R is still just a mustang too to the average person,
Just don’t buy an ATS-v :)

Both are excellent for the road course, as proven.
The only thing I would be cautious of with the GT350 and GT350R cars are their engines are prone to have big time issues. Read about it on the other Mustang forum to see what I am referring to. 5 people have had their engines replaced under warranty all with low, low miles.
I'm not too crazy about the C8 body style yet, but it's SLOWLY growing on me. Not sure how I feel about the center control strip either.

I drove 350R and manual atsv few times too , I'd take 350r all day long over atsv .The only thing I'd give to Caddy is the interior. Everything else to GT350R . Looks way better exterior wise ., handling was so much better too .350r is in a different universe when it comes to engine/ exhaust sound . That 6 cylinder sounds like crap compering to high revving Voodoo .
C8 vs 350R would be a hard choice . I wouldn't even look at atsv if I was in the market for cars like 350r or c8

I'm not sure why. They're are both two door for seaters that run neck and neck at the drag strip, at the track, and are selling for comparable prices used.

Personally, I found the exhaust tiring after a full day of driving. Like a ricer it was loud just for the sake of being loud. It made the car feel even cheaper than it already did.

Manual to manual, the Shelby is actually 4-5 seconds faster at Laguna, and 7-8 seconds faster at VIR,

also, the Shelby has exhaust valves and a quiet mode. I despise it, and flick the loud switch right after startup!
