My dad always told me to "learn from your mistakes, but better yet is to learn from others mistakes first" In the spirit of my Dad, I'd like for those of you looking to purchase a GT500 to learn from my mistakes. I always wanted one of these 13/14 GT500's since the day they were released. Bidding my time(and$), I waited till this past October and finally found the "one". Black 2014 with Black stripes, 821A pkg. Recaros,Electronics Pkg/Nav. clean Carfax,Unmolested with less than 5000 miles and only 4 hour drive from my house. I thought I had thoroughly investigated these cars and knew everything about them.(plus having owned and wrenched dozens of muscle cars over the last 50 years) I was wrong! First mistake happened when I was ready to drive it off the dealers lot. Salesman was going to show me how to link the Synch with my phone. "Just look in the glove box and the owners manual will explain it" Except the manual was missing(oops says the salesman, We'll get you one) 5 months later I finally get my manuals. 2nd mistake was when I discovered that the Floor mats said "Mustang" and not GT500. No biggie I'll just order the right ones.($100) Third mistake:I'm looking at the front fascia of GT500 and looks like something is missing compared to other 13/14 GT500's. Sure enough the air deflector that came boxed from the factory and stored in trunk was nowhere to be found($130) Fourth Mistake: After purchasing an original window sticker, the dealer installed car cover(on invoice) wasn't with the car.($300) And last mistake: Looking into spare tire well there was no tire inflator (fix a flat) that was standard on these cars.(still looking for this item) Morale of the story guys: Dot every I and cross every T when vetting these cars. Devil is in the small details. I could very have well negotiated all these missing things, had I done ALL my homework. Right now I've got an extra $530+ in purchases to add onto the car from all the missing pieces! No sour grapes here though I still love my GT500! Just be aware!

Congrats on joining the '13/'14 club! Those are good tips for potential buyers. I don't mean to trivialize the issues you encountered but, in the overall scheme of things, I'd say you did well to locate a nicely-equipped, unmolested, low-mileage specimen. Its location, only four hours away, makes that even better. (I'm biased, but the outstanding color combo is frosting on the cake.) There are plenty of more expensive horror stories from purchasers who really don't know what they SHOULD have looked for. Assuming you got it for a decent price, you did well. Enjoy your new toy and post some pics!

Thanks Norton. I'm sure my issues are trivial in the grand scheme of things. I think i did well on the price. I paid $46k It still smells new and cant wait to get her out of hibernation. Only put about 400 miles on her last year b4 putting her away. C'mon Spring!

Good information there for sure. When I bought my 11, I knew it was missing the car cover and the drivers power seat didn’t work. So we negotiated those two items after researching the costs of those items. Thanks for the info....lots to look out for when buying

Thanks for sharing
Those are many thing alot of buyers over look. But at least you were able to obtain all those things at a reasonable cost.

Congrats & good luck with your 14.
Can I presume it wasn't a Ford dealership ?
Thanks for sharing your " post sale " knowledge..

Congratulations on landing your '14 GT-500, even though you had to spend extra to obtain stuff that should have been there to begin with. This thread should help others going forward.

Thanks guys for all your feedback. I hope my experience will help others looking to purchase GT500's going forward. Just as a sidebar to my story, I found out from the original owner that all those missing pieces were all present and accounted for when he traded in the Shelby. After speaking with the car dealer,at the time when I was trying to get the owners manuals, he told me that they outsourced the detailing of used vehicles about a year ago. Now I'm no "Sherlock Holmes", but if you look on eBay,you will see a whole thriving industry on GT500 items that came with these cars. Of course there are engines, transmissions, body parts, etc., but also a lot of the small "portable" items if you know what I mean. I'm not trying to throw shade on car detailers in total, but sure seems unusual that all the small items disappeared in that time period! Thx again for listening to my story.

Congrats and welcome to the 13/14 GT500 club. Sucks not having everything with the car, but not the end of the world. I have 3 sets of OEM GT500 floor mates. I would have happily sold you a set lol. But enjoy the car. They're a blast.

Curious, did you shop or look here on SVTP before buying a car from the dealership? I'm always interested to see other peoples takes on their car purchase.

My 2013 was probably the most unique and DumbLuck car purchase that I ever committed.

I always try to buy from fellow members when I can

Yes sir. I searched high and low for 2 years. Cars.com,AutoTrader,Carmax,Cargurus,Hemmings. I hit em all. Several deals fell through because I couldn't get to the cars location on time. Had a nice 13 Blue w/silver stripes with all options and glass roof with less than 2000 miles in my grasp. Located in Pittsburgh Pa., bout 5 hours away. Had cash, bags packed and the dealer calls me and tells me a guy from Calif. flew in night before and it was sold. Another 14 w/red color and everything but glass roof, located in Va. contacted seller(private) and was in process of getting my plane tix. Called 2 days before I was gonna leave and informs me it was sold. Guess it was better than buying the air tix and getting there and then finding out that it was gone. It was definitely frustrating, but in the end I'm happy with the "one" I got.

totally confusing myself now, I can't find the pic I saved of that car. I looked at so many. It may have been a 13 or 14. I do remember the options and the mileage for sure. Plus the price. It was a steal at $46500
