I can understand that, my everyday carry is a Kimber Stainless 1911 in 9mm. Recoil is a lot less on it than a .45ACP.

How do you like your Stainless? I have one and nobody can seem to get it running right. The slide catches the brass on the way out and jams. I've put a new recoil spring in it, bought new Wilson Combat magazines & had a gunsmith take a look at it and clean it up, but it still happens often when shooting (like once per mag or two)

If I could put a magwell on a BHP without having to cut the frame and weld it I would run them in matches.

I run the Mec-Gar 15 Rounder flush clips in them for two extra rounds. Too bad they don't make some kind of magwell for them. I know Night Hawk Custom does a Hi-Power and does some kind of trick work on the magwell but nothing you could probably run in a match.

I am going to apologize for a long post... but it may be worth the read for some.

I am not a brand loyalist, but I am starting to think SIG is a pretty damn good company. I had some amazing service to tell you about, but first, a little background.

I bought one of the very first SIG 516 Patrol rifles they sold. I started doing training drills and spent thousands of rounds a month. Over the years, the system saw heavy use, including the upper running thousands of rounds of auto fire and simulated auto fire. Within less than 7 years, the system saw over 30,000 rounds. I stopped counting after awhile.

With all those rounds fired, the gun was 100% reliable. I never had a single failure due to anything but lack of cleaning and/or lube. It proved to be a true "go to war" rifle that I knew I could rely on in life or death situations.

A few weeks ago, within 100 or so round, my groups went from 1.5 MOA to 5 MOA. I also had a soft primer strike. I took the weapon apart to clean it to see if that would help. I found the the original firing pin tip was mushrooming. Also, the rifling in the barrel was heavily worn.

I called SIG to setup a service to have a new barrel installed. Sadly, they only made gen 1 barrels and uppers for a very, very brief time and they had no replacement parts.

After a long convo about my attachment and history with the rifle, the customer service rep went to the engineers and machinists. They called me back (unexpectedly) and helped make magic happen.

Normally, a replacement barrel would have been about $300+ from SIG. For $400, they covered round-trip shipping, machined my original upper to fit the latest generation barrel and piston system, upgraded me to the latest adjustable gas block, replaced all my springs everywhere (except the trigger group, which is aftermarket), replaced my firing pin, and did a complete clean and lube.

I am completely blown away. The turn-around time was only 8 days and I now have a fantastic, one of a kind SIG manufactured and customize Gen 1 516 Patrol.

Sorry for the really crappy pics... but I really wanted to share.

I had a 516 when they first came out and kinda went gun snobbish and sold it for BCMs and Noveske rifles. It was actually a very good shooter and pretty accurate

LOL... now that's funny... My other AR's are Bravo Co. and Noveske, too! All great brands. Very happy with them all.

Picked up this Colt Combat Unit rail gun in 9mm from a good friend yesterday. Good slide to frame fit, and locks up good. I believe it has an ion bond finish which is sturdy as heck, which is good since this thing will get beat on shoving it in and out of kydex. I put an S&A magwell on it and going to run it in a match Saturday. I might change the mag catch as the one from Colt has an awfully stiff spring.

So not quite Gun porn but related to it. Just finished up my work/ re loading bench in my basement. Today I’ll be getting Sheetrock and peg board to close the wall up. I have one more press to mount that will be dedicated to handgun rounds. Next project will be epoxy on the garage floor, and setting that up how I want it.

It would have been better to epoxy the floor first, and then move in that big and heavy gun safe, and the bench. I'm sure there was a reason why you couldn't. Just saying it would have been easier for you.

Post up a photo or two when the project is completed. Should be a nice work area. I had to move all of my guns. ammo, supplies down into my shifter gasket workshop, and I've been trying to figure out where to move it now since I need all of the space for making gaskets. Seeing that work bench made me realize (duh!) that I have a great Formica topped bench with lower cabinet storage right outside the work area, presently covered with miscellaneous crap. My new project will be to clean it up and move the gun supplies to the bench. Thanks for stirring up my brain. LOL.

That is a nice looking rifle. I have the gen 1 MP15 Sport. The lower was not machined correctly from S&W, but once I fixed it... it's been shooting great for years. They are very accurate for an affordable rifle.

If I may... stay away from EOTech. Their HWS all have thermal shift, which means as the temp changes during the day, your sight alignment changes... basically meaning that you have to zero the optic every time you want to use it.

I would strongly recommend a "Romeo and Juliet" combo from SIG (if you like the EOTech) or an ACOG. Neither of them have thermal drift and are very reliable optics.

In all fairness, that may qualify as running right for a Kimber...
