If OP agreed to the guys price TO INCLUDE the cluster, then you should be shipping it to him. I certainly believe that splitting shipping cost is more than fair.

If the guy flipped over such sensible request, **** HIM and his whore mother.

We had an agreed upon deal, he made the deposit, he had 2 months to come up with the money and when that deadline came up he said, heres the deal, I have $500 less to give you. I was pretty pissed off but selling an engine/tranny was as frustrating as tire kickers and I needed the money so I said, fine. It was all over facebook messenger. I had every right to tell him to screw off and keep the deposit but I did not have time to try and find yet another buyer for this massive stash my parents were hoarding for me.

Either way, Im not actually complaining about that part, I was just shocked to be called a scammer and told to man up for thinking splitting a $30 shipping charge was fair in this situation.

I'm on your side. The buyer is being frivolous and playing victim though he suckered you out of $500.

Once you admit your obligation under an agreement, whether it is in writing or not is a matter for lawyers. A man’s word is just as important if not more important.

This is not a matter for lawyers. This is a mutual mistake. OP has been throughly cool and made a legit offer to resolve the issue. The other party feels wronged (which he unintentionally was) and he is being a dick. OP would be within his rights to demand that the terms of the contract be honored and demand the item be picked up. However, is it worth $30 to avoid the aggravation and avoid this going to small claims court where we non-experts find out how our lack of understanding gets expensive.

I agree with all of that, except that the $30 is on the seller. You hit the nail on the head- agreement was to pick it up. Buyer breached the agreement.

Who “broke their word” first? All bets are off at that point.

I take a lot of pride being able to do business on a handshake. If I was the OP and the buyer paid the agreed upon price 8 months ago, I’d ship the cluster out on my dime.

OP’s request to split shipping isn’t unreasonable at all under the circumstances.

I will say that OP is a sucker for getting strong armed into a deal like that.

“Im 500 short, take it or leave it”..... yeah, enjoy the drive back with no parts, bud!
He wasnt at my place, if he had driven to my place and tried to strong arm me like that he would have either paid in full or driven hone empty handed minus his 1k deposit. I had a tons of "tire kickers" with no real buyers for months before this guy contacted me and just wanted it gone at this point

7500. It was a full terminator swap I had for a ac cobra build

I see. Makes sense.

Even though that guy is acting a lil’ bitch. Id just ship the shit on my dime. Already made decent money on it. $30 more would not kill me and it would avoid the drama.

I would take the cluster to the beach, concerts, the movies, theme parks, etc. etc. and take pics of all the fun times you're having so you can send them to him.

OP

To answer your initial question. No, You're not being an asshole.

But, you'd be justified if you wanted to be. IMO
