Cams and no cats OR E85 tune and no cats?

Hey guys!

I just bought my 16' Mustang GT 6MT a few months ago and I'm toying with a few future options. Right now, my current performance mods are: D1-SC Procharger (9lbs), Corsa Exhaust, and tune by CarlyleRacing in Ohio. I bought the car from a friend of mine with all the current mods and right now it has 6300 miles on it making 608WHP. He was told by the performance shop that if he went with an E85 tune and got rid of the cats, it would net around a 100whp gain.

I'm not looking to do anything right away because frankly 608whp is plenty for me right now, but I'd like to know what the Mustang community thinks. My plan is to track this car on road courses (Mid-Ohio and a few others) in the future and potentially some drag events, but the majority will be road courses. I would like to make more power, but I also want to take care od the car and not blow it up haha.

With that said, what would be a better option?
1.) E85 tune and no cats
2.) Cams and no cats (With a re-tune)
3.) Something else

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

E85 over cams all day every day. Cams just aren't worth it with how much they cost plus install. Plus you run the risk of poor driveability.

Yeah, this is an easy choice IMO. E85, tune and no cats. In the end, you'll be much happier overall.

Awesome! Thanks for the reply guys!

Are there any more supporting mods to start thinking about with upping the power to around 700+whp? It still have stock clutch and I'm thinking I'm starting to get to its limits as well.

E85 + no cats will yield you about 100whp, he's right. I have seen 70whp just off the fuel switch. I would REALLY grab some longtube headers and free up some flow, catless, of course! I can get you settled! Message me.

If you're looking do mostly road courses, I would say dump a bunch of cash into suspension, wheels and tires and just do the E85 tune if you can afford it AFTER those mods. Buy the best suspension set-up you can afford to help your car handle like it's on rails along with lighter track focused wheels/tires. I would think your HP level is good enough for a road course.
Good luck!

No need for more HP if your goal is road courses. Your best investment is suspension, wheels/tires, and brakes. If your blower isn't intercooled I'd look at investing in one.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!

My blower is intercooled, so I should be good there Recon. I do want to do some more suspension work so I will also need to tips around that. I plan to snatch up some track tires over this winter for next season that I will pair with my PP wheels that came with the car.

I'm probably not going to do for E85 and no cats right away (Potentially next winter) and will probably do more of the suspension first to prep for the road courses, but I just more or less wanted to see what the best avenue would be to take in the future.

As for suspension, What would you guys recommend for mostly road courses racing? Im just sitting on Eibach Pro Kit springs right now. Car does have the track pack and performance pack.

Thanks!

Car will be much safer on a road course without cats and E85. You will be creating a lot of heat on 93 and constant throttle. Get mak cat deletes.

Do you have a boost a pump in the car now and what size injectors are you using? E85 needs compliant injectors plus more supply and to be honest if your road coursing I would worry more about suspension, brakes, tires, and cooling. So yes I would dump the cats because they will get to hot and put you into heat protection tables. Get a better radiator, 170 t-stat, oil cooler if you don't have one.
