I'd like to get everyone's opinions on what SVE Drift wheels to run. Not sure if I want to go staggered 18x9/10 with 255/45 and 285/40 or 18x10 squared with 285/40.

Car is a 2014 GT that is currently having a VMP TVS kit installed. Should make in the neighborhood of 600rwhp. It's just a fun weekend car, doubt it'll see the track more than a handful of times ever. I do like spirited cornering on occasion. No suspension mods yet but have whiteline LCAs waiting to go on.

Friend of mine said squared isn't great because of the extra weight and wider tread could mess with the physics of handling

I'm thinking about going with 18X9 all around with 255/45 in front with 275's in the rear... I'm not for a 335 bigass tire out back, well unless it's on a dragstrip car..

If someone is telling you that more front tire would "mess with the physics of handling" they must be a drag racer and not understand what handling means. Square for best grip and ability to rotate tires.

Not really wanting to go with the 19s. I like the idea of having a bit more sidewall and lower tire prices.

Actually quite the opposite. He's more into German cars, motorcycles and road racing. Plus in either setup I may run a DR in the back so in that case I couldn't rotate a squared setup anyway.

I had a TVS blower on my last set-up makn 640 hp and it was a skating ring every time I mashed it on the street. totally worthless with radials unless ur into that fast n furious shit and wanna to the Tokyo Drift thing......

Put the NT05r on there or its simply a waste. and once u start makn more power then that u will need somthn stickier with more meat.

no offense but the 18 inch rims look boring! yep, cheaper to buy and cheaper to buy tires but again their boring!

If you only race in a straight line, smaller upfront and bigger in the back.

If you enjoy cornering, braking, handling in general, get the square setup.

With the TVS you'll definitely want as much tire as you can get. I don't think the added weight up front will bother you at all.

Personally I run staggered because I got my AMR rims (nearly identical to SVE drift) dirt cheap on ebay, and the set was 18 x 8/10, so I don't have a choice but to stagger. While I'd rather run square 18x10, 255 up front is a good size for street handling. You do save some forward weight by running staggered, and it looks good - plus as you get wider front tires they tend to follow imperfections in the road surface more.

Go with a squared setup. You wont regret it if you ever drive your car close to the limits in the turns. Also as stated nt05rs

I went with a 20x8.5 squared set up when I first got my car and regreted it from day 1. Just looked too wussified in the rear. I just dealt with it then finally got tire of it and bought some 20x10 deep dish rears to match the front and put a 305 on there. Love the look now and wouldn't change back for anything. Except I have to for winter driving but every time I look at it i'm just like man I can't wait for summer to get that beefy look back. If the wheels weren't deep dish in the rear I probably wouldn't care as much

That's because you went with a 20x8.5....:( A squared set-up is hands down the best when it comes to handling. I'm running 20x10 285/35/20 squared and I love it!

What's the point in going 20x8.5 square when stock is 8inch. Seriously, getting new wheels and only going a half inch wider than base model stock? I run 18x8 front and 18x10 rear because I was being cheap and lazy and wanted to recycle the stock front tires. Every time I think about my tires I wish I'd gone square stance or at least 9+ fronts

I ran both setups at Sebring. the 18" staggered with 255x35 fronts and 285x40 rears and now run 19" square with 275x35. They ran exactly as you would expect. The staggered setup pushed, i.e. More grip in the rear than front makes the front wheels slide a little coming out of the corner which pushes the car toward the outside of the corner in exiting. The square setup just felt more balanced and I ran better times as the cornering was better. If all you do is go straight then yeah get as much grip as possible out back and with no need to turn, run as small of a front wheel as possible but if you plan on turning while going fast, get some meat up front too. Pretty basic stuff.

Thanks for all the input!

Changing this up slightly...if I go with the squared setup (which I probably will), a friend of mine who is also an enthusiast keeps telling me to get drag radials for all 4 corners. This sounds like a bad idea to me but does any one have experience with this?

I wouldn't run DR upfront.... race tires are one thing, drag tires are meant for the rear, and brands like nitto pair a street tire to with similar tread pattern to their drag radials. (NT555 pair with NT555R, NT05 pair with NT05R) Drag radials are built to go straight, and while some are stiff enough to handle rear cornering forces I wouldn't want to steer on one, especially if wet.
