Desert Eagle 50AE, that way you wont even have to get out of bed if you hear a bump in the dark. Just aim and hope your exterior walls stop it from hitting a neighbor.

I have fired my 50AE inside before. If the round doesn't hit 'em, the shockwave will.

I keep a 357 in the nightstand. Once my tax stamps come in, I'll have a suppressed FNP45C sitting there. I also keep a DP12 nearby.

I'm paranoid.

If you like the .45acp look at a 1911 or a Glock 21. the G21 carries 12 rounds in the mag and 1 in the chamber (13 total). A typical 1911 is usually limited to 7 +1. Both are reliable and easy to find parts for. Be sure to get a good mounted light and keep additional loaded mags on hand.

My nightstand weapon is a Glock 17 (17 rounds 9mm in the mag) with a Surefire X300 ultra 500 lumen weapon light and 2 extra mags.

I my opinion a hand gun is better for home defense that a shotgun. Just try working around doorways and tight hallways with a shotgun. A shotgun or AR/AK should be your 2nd choice.

It is important to pick what feels right and is easy to shoot for you (and maybe your wife?). Take your time deciding.

I have a funny video from the range when firing the DE and you hear others yell "whoa" when fired, no one was expecting to hear that.

My man! I have my DP-12 ready to go along with a few other options.

Hahaha yep! I fired mine at an indoor range. My 44mag gets some looks, but that 50AE... Holy crap. There were 15-20 people at that indoor range, and every single one of them stopped what they were doing when I fired that bastard. I distinctly remember a "what the ____ was that?!?!"

460XVRs make a good bang, but the only thing with a more violent concussion was an S&W500. The 50AE is damn close.

Definitely not a nightstand gun unless you like EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Haven't had a chance to run a S&W500 yet, but have seen some videos of them in action. A large caliber at the range is a good time.

It can be a nightstand gun, just keep muffs next to it, make it a full event, lol.

My 1911 has been moved to nightstand duty, my Jericho took over a daily.
