When the racing weight becomes really immportant, you need to slide Danica Patrick into the driver's seat.

i have heard she is accustomed to sliding into a variety of drivers seats over the years. sorry for non needed gossip.

Just for comparison, so everybody just stay COOL:thumbsup:

Here is what a new Z weighs (fully loaded) with 8 gallons of gas (1/2 tank).

So with a full tank ~3130

~790# difference from the GT500 listed above

We can use these to figure out what it's gonna take to match/beat the Z.

Notice how the rear weights of both cars are not too far off from each other, but the front is huge.

All take it easy:beer: :burnout:

According to SVT the 3920lbs that is quoted is a car fully wet and with the Mach 1000. According to SVT the Mach 1000 is 70lbs heavier than the Mach 500 due to the subwoofer enclosures and the extra amplicfication. If you remember Ford quoted the GT500 to be in the 3850 range initially, and that the Mach 1000 would not be available as the car was porky the pig to begin with. Either way thats good news... a little diet and this thing really could be in the 03-04 range (still heavy though) but a good start. Some shorty headers and FRPP mufflers as well as a light weight battery would shave almost a 100lbs off of this car. Do some light weight forged wheels and you will be in the low 3700lb range..hopefully.

Dave

That's correct.
At least it doesn't weight over 4000+ lbs. like some here have said.
I remember SVT initialy quoting 3850 lbs. for the GT500. Wasn't the weight of the Terminators 3665 lbs. according to SVT? If that's correct, wouldn't that make the GT500 (minus the shaker 1000) only 185 lbs. heavier? That's quite a difference from the 300-400 lbs. quoted by some.

Thanks for posting those corner weights. I knew the New Z was an awesome car and built very light. But I had no clue they nailed the corner weights like they did! My hat is off to them! Now I understand a little better why only a marginal driver in one is so fast on the track!

It's still fun however, to have one point a Mustang by on the track! :-D

Keep in mind.....
The frame of the standard Corvette is made of steel, and the Z06's is constructed of aluminum (it doesn't weigh 136 pounds, as we mistakenly reported in our October 2005 issue, but is 136 pounds lighter than the steel one). Lightweight magnesium castings are used for the engine cradle and roof structure; the front fenders are made from carbon fiber; the engine's connecting rods and intake valves are titanium.
Borrowed from Car and Drivers "Comparison Test Review: 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vs. 2006 Dodge Viper SRT10"
http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/10243/comparison-test-review-2006-chevrolet-corvette-z06-vs-2006-dodge-viper-srt10.html

EDIT: the LS7 has aluminum-alloy block and head castings, also

.

What are the weight differences between the ls7 and the 5.4 s/c engines?

I have heard a roughly 300# difference, including all accessories, s/c, intercoolers, etc.

Iron block, huge heads, and all the supporting s/c hardware add up quickly.

LS7 is roughly 400#, while the 5.4 s/c I have heard is around 700#

If you've ever seen one of those GM small blocks compared to the 5.4 mod motor you would think the mod motor had 2x the displacment. It's huge looking. Even the 4.6 is MUCH larger looking than the SBC.

It's crazy how they packaged the motor so small and still have big cubes.

I have no reference for this and can't back it up, but that's what I've heard around.

I heard the same thing, that is why i asked the question.
Someone hear must know. Fourcam......

300# off the front end (w/500hp) would do wonders for handling w/S197 chassis.

Edit: If 300lbs is correct (I doubt it) that would bring the F/R bias to 52.6/47.4 respectively. Even if it we're 200lbs it is a respectable 54/46 bias. That to me proves the S197 chassis is well engineered and not over weight as most people think, myself included.

Yes, its true. I've been next to the C5R and C6R motors...essentially the same as the LS7 (in terms of size) and they are way smaller than any mod motor.

WTF are you smoking? I think 99.9% of people here would LOVE the LS7 in any car they drive (assuming it fits). Not to mention, it'd probably take a good 200lbs off the front end of the GT500....

I think your 99.9% might be a TAD on the optimistic side? ;-)

I'm in with the :xpl: crowd also! :-D

Not me. Endurance tested motor ready for a bit more power.

Thanks for posting the corner weights. I'm hoping to get a set of scales myself, so I can do it to every car I own (especially the ones with coil-overs) and many others as well.

the LS7 is a badass motor...if I was building a 60's or 70's car I think that's the motor I'd put in...with a fat cam and some head work...600+ rwhp n/a is NOT BAD for a stockish motor.

Yeah it's a killer engine...but not in a GT500 like some said.:xpl: No crossbreeding.
