They do, its called escape and never return. Wife and I both did that in the military, we gambled our old dead end life styles and hoped we could make a better one leaving everyone else behind. I think its why we get along great and are still happily married, we both made our big escapes and the gamble paid off. These judges and DAs think they are saving people by going easy on them because of whatever excuses they have, but all they are doing is exacerbating the issues they have by ensuring that no real punishment will ever be doled out, and the people who end up paying for the crimes are the people closest to these assholes and the rest of us who become victims of their crimes. Logic, reason and a sense justice is completely lost in the US justice system.

Perfect reason for all boys to get into wrestling at a young age. I haven't been in a fight in 24 years, but before that it was not uncommon. 95% of them ended on the ground with them realizing they don't know how to get up or away. Once that happens the fire goes out, they start getting embarrassed and eventually look for the first excuse to diffuse the situation.
I've landed maybe 2 good punches in my life. All the rest were getting hands on them and bringing them to the ground and mounting their back. It's amazing how little most people understand body control.
