Considering what they pay, I can't believe people aren't knocking down their doors to install carpet in an F-150.

Any 18 year old that can pass a drug test can be a red hat in a coal mines in WV making $75,000/year starting out, and they still can't get people to work either.

Then you have to live in WV and work in a Coal Mine...

I think OEMs will bend some....but you best believe during this contract they'll explore the automation of the process more than they ever have before...

Labor increases...costs of technology decreasing... it makes a lot of since to cut labor by 70% and have robotos do most the work and you save money.

Ala McDonalds and their kiosks.

Automotive plants are already as automated as they can be. You just can't build robots to crawl under a dash and install a harness.

UAW is a PITA and defends the shit birds, sure, but they really aren't the core issue with the Domestics, more a symptom of the greater problem.

German unions earn more per hour, work less hours and produce more cars then Americans.

I hear you. But what's been discussed is the OEM plants will be assembly plants...and the parts/components will come from suppliers more complete.

There will always be dealerships that are better or worse than others. Individuals have the choice in our market to choose who you do business with.

Saying it's unfair because the dealer next to your house isn't a good dealer...is kinda of irrelevant. Finding a good one might not be the most convenient thing.
Every dealership and each person working at the dealership is the face of Ford or whichever manufacturer is represented. Sometimes it isn't easy finding a good one for many reasons.

Out here we have a relatively large Ford dealership that I remember since I was a kid and it was next to a strip bar (I mean "coffee" shop). As it grew and got larger it seemed to forget where it came from, and the complaints also grew. Recently the owners sold out to a bigger company from up north that owns quite the number of dealerships and now it stinks and it is unfortunate because that's what people will think of when Ford comes to mind. How does one weed out the rotten from the good?

Natural selection.

The numbers of complaints might grow, but the number of customers grows as well.

Once BEV factories come online, there will be far more automation and way less workers needed. Tesla has proved the current way of building cars is severely outdated and they literally reinvented the assembly line.

This is what is going to kill a large portion of UAW jobs:

Tesla produces a garbage quality car with garbage styling.

If you want everyone driving a POS battery powered LADA, sure, automate the shit out of it.

And yet they have the worst build quality in the industry.

Love that LCA bolt that has to be cut out because it interferes with the body.

It beats flipping burgers in the burbs.

Honestly, I'd rather flip burgers somewhere else.

Like to quit my job and move to WV to work on a mine, I'd want like at least $500k a year.

That's what always fascinates me about this discussion.

"UAW is bullshit, anyone can install a door panel for $30/hr, what a joke"

But no one wants to quit their current job to go do it....

Irrelevant. Their profit margins are higher than anyone else and they can make changes to their product on the fly rather than competitors having to wait years to refresh.

Changes on the fly? Shit hasn't changed in like 10 years and it's taken them seemingly a decade to release the Cyber truck.

It's easy to have high margins when being funded by the government, playing stock games with announcements and pre orders and basically acting like a hype beast tech company.

Thit will all catch up eventually.

Wasn't Ford having Mach Es selling for like $40k ADM and now they can't get rid of them?

I always giggle when I see people bitching about car dealers/salesman etc. We operate in one of the largest $ industries in the world...with some of the world's smallest margins.
New vehicle margins are shit lol...i know you know that

Now the margins in parts and service on the other hand...they be legit lol

When i was a service writer i almost shit when i saw how much money was made or shoulda been made....cant believe what i wrote and did for 400 a week as writer only 10 years ago...no comission even lol

The writers at that same ford store are doing 16 an HR now with a monthly bonus "if service made money"...lol service was never, not once anywhere near the red when i worked there
