While I understand your frustration with the traffic situation, I find it interesting you are assuming facts based on your vehicles' speedometer. The speedometer in the police vehicle is calibrated and verified. Yours is not.

The only thing I have to say and for you to think about is this, police are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

If they drive the speed limit, they're blocking traffic and pissing people off.

If they drive above the speed limit, they're abusing their authority, thinking they can do whatever they want, and pissing people off.

Before you ask, no, I am not a cop.

Nobody would give any sort of a damn if he was in the right lane where he was supposed to be, and then when a vehicle passed him going 2mph faster he just continued on with his life... There everyones happy.

And btw Donut shop, not smackdown.

Agreed

The original post should have landed in the donut shop. However, some of the responses are prime for smackdown.

you can do that off camera and troopers ride solo. lack of accountability lowers inhibition and promotes bad behavior in individuals susceptible to it.
Cameras auto activated when blues lights turned on..

that's incorrect. the reason cops get a bad rap is because at some point they shifted from PEACE officers to LAW enforcement.
there's a HUGE difference between the two. peace officers are cool. these are the guys that try to not screw with people and only really get involved in stuff that is actually a problem. like, someone is actually in danger.

most cops are not this way. but they could be and I'm thankful for all who are. rookies are the worst. old timers are generally pretty good.

once i was stopped going to work. I drive faster than traffic usually and freely navigate around slower people who don't know how left lanes are supposed to operate. so this old timer pulls me over, i stop in this bank parking lot, very well lit, all that, he asks whats the rush "just trying to get to work". oh yeah where ya work? I tell him and he knows i got like 20 miles to go. its like 6am.

i will never forget this. he goes "oh shit, well try and take it easy and have a good day".

that dude was a rockstar. no lecture about "well ya might not get there if ya keep driving like an asshole" or whatever.

No, this is NOT a Donut Shop thread. Perhaps a read of the DS rules should be read before suggesting such. It is not a place to bash law enforcement, but a place to ask questions. Had it been posted there, the hounds would have been released already.

Why are you nut hugging on cops? In MN the statute only draws a distinction for passing an authorized vehicle with its emergency, flashing, or warning lights activated or that is parked on a street or highway having only one lane in the same direction. In this case, the driver must reduce his speed to one that is "prudent and reasonable."

You are absolutely correct in that I was 2 mph over. I do not know what to tell you if you think that pulling me over somehow made the world a better place.

1- your emergency example has nothing to do with your story. Because you did not get stopped for passing a cop. You got stopped for speeding.

2-so people should not be stopped for speeding because that’s just petty? They are law enforcement officers, they don’t write the laws, they enforce them. So, petty or not, it’s their job to go out there and enforce those laws. You broke it right in front of him and he stopped you for it and did not even ticket you for it. You literally passed a marked squad car who was traveling at the speed limit, creating a pace for the traffic. You disregarded that balantly and still didn’t receive a ticket for it. Stop crying.

for those of you who are scratching your heads as to why nobody hates firemen while tons of people hate and most people are at least paranoid around cop I've put the reason in red bold text for your convenience.

most traffic ordinances exist for 2 reasons:
1. to promote the illusion of safety
2. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

And your point is, cops are hated because they enforce the laws their states written and hired them to enforce?

and let’s say for a split second you are right, why would people hate the cops for it? They didn’t write those laws.

Are you suggesting police officers not to do their jobs? Help me understand your point there please.

as for your money comment, cops don’t think generating revenue. They don’t see that end of the operation. That’s the politics of it all and have nothing to do with cops
