I did. Wife would have probably kicked my head clean off my shoulders lol. For real though, it made my move so much easier by selling it.
i got ya, i've thought about doing that to a coyote f150...but seeing most of them are single cab 2wd, built for speed..not lifted crew cabs with larger tires. i'm just wanting a fun 4wd DD with some power up top for highway passing...the JKU on 37s does NOT have that lol. i even looked at a hellcat swapped JK yesterday...all over the place!

so I had both a WK1 and WK2 SRT8 jeep. I loved them both, BUT on two absolutely bone stock motors, regular oil changes and maintenance, both of them dropped valves and grenaded the motor. Not sure what to make of that but just my .02

I love my TBSS. It's completely stock other than a resonator delete. It's my winter daily driver but if it was my year round driver I would spend the money to do either the oil pickup tube relocation or baffle mod, transmission cooler, tune, and a higher stall. That really gets them moving. I've had zero issues with mine as far as transmission issues or oil starvation. I run extra oil and don't beat the piss out of it (I have the summer toys to do that with lol). Other than that they are fairly reliable and fun daily drivers. I love the sleeper look and sound of them. You could even get into things like cam, supercharging, long tube headers, etc. ... lol. I think with your budget you could pick up a clean unit and do the oil starvation and transmission fixes and have some money left to play with. Just have to be sure to find a well cared for unit. I am sure that is the case for GCSRT8's as well.

I absolutely loved my '16 Jeep SRT. I kind of wish I had kept that car, but I ultimately sold it because it absolutely drank gas and loved to consume tires and brakes. But, I suppose that's the price you pay for a 5,300 lb vehicle that begs to be pushed.

Even the WK1? I thought they were pretty bullet proof. Also, did you actually drop a valve or was it the common lifter failure that destroys the cam with the 6.4 hemi?

Yes the WK1 had the lifter problem that wiped the cam out but it also hit the valves

This was the WK2

Damn! I am/was strongly considering picking up a WK2 SRT..but I don't want to deal with the lifter issue--it seems to be more and more common.

yea I really really liked that thing too but once the dealer was done fixing it I immediately traded it in

these were my two

If you tune the 6.4 you can disable the mds or keep it in sport mode to turn it off. That should help to save the lifters.

Wherever the gov't tells me.
I had no idea about the lifter issues. That’s insane. My 03 Ram 2500 had the “Hemi Tick” the whole time I had it. 145k miles on the truck when I sold it and still running strong, just noisy.

It seems to be more prevalent on the 6.4. Some speculate it's due to poor oil circulation/pressure at idle and a combination of crap lifters. I don't know what the cause is, but there is a lot of stories with the same outcome: stuck roller on the lifter and a flattened cam lobe. Too many for me with the price the SRT commands. That said, it was still a badass daily driver!

Back to the topic, as we are currently looking for a 'fun' smaller SUV:

Wife is currently looking for a 'new' car, and she's wanting a fun SUV. We've test drove Jeep Grand Cherokees, Explorers and BMW X3s. The X3 M40i was a big surprise. I got to drive one on an autocross track at a BMW event--it blew me away. Jeep GC with the 5.7 would be our choice of their lineup. The Explorer, even in ST trim, was nice but boring and a bit too big for our needs. So far the X3 M40i is leading the charge. Going to drive an Audi SQ5 and possibly a Porsche Macan (this one just for fun...but who knows).

That sucks. My wk2 had 103k miles on it before I traded it in. The lifters went bad at 72k miles but didn't ruin anything else.

Still ran great, and the trans was fine with me driving in track mode 90% of the time towards the end lol.

If Ford had done the 2020 Edge ST properly, with actual "ST Grade" performance and features, I'd recommend it for your wife. I absolutely loved my 2016 Ford Edge Sport day to day. Perfect size for us as I didn't want 3rd row seating. Performance wise, though, even with a mild tune, it was boring. And the 6-speed auto sucked! Was slipping like crazy when I gave it back to Ford (it was leased). REALLY bad. The next transmission is awesome, though. I test drove one last year and was impressed. With the transmission, that is, NOT with the performance and seats.
