I knew I shouldn't have watched that. God damn stupid ass cagers.

That's why when I used to ride, I'd flicker my tail light a few times if I saw a car approaching from behind me, and I'd try to keep my eye on them to make sure they were slowing down. Can't watch all of them, though.

Good grief! Prayers for that biker. And let's hope they nab the driver of that pickup truck.

Back in 2010 I bought an aftermarket tail light that had a flicker built into it. Three quick flashes before going steady

Don't know anymore
When I was riding, I would watch my mirrors. If a car was approaching with no signs of slowing down, I would run the light. I did this in my car too. Only had to do it twice, but in both cases, I avoided being rear ended.

One reason why I’m getting rid of my bike. Too many people who aren’t paying attention can end you at any moment.
My father’s best friend is 6 months to a year before he can stand on his feet again. Because some woman not paying attention pulled out in front of him. For 7 weeks all he could move was his right arm. He had 4 surgeries in 4 days. And there’s a rod going from one side of his pelvis to the other holding everything in place. Metal in his back due to broken vertebrae. Worst part is he retired last year to enjoy the rest of his life and do what he wants to do, and no he’s bed ridden for almost a year. He probably can’t walk right again for his remaining time on earth.
It’s not worth it.

Pick your poison.

The driver is still on the loose. Thank God it wasn’t a Mustang though. Poor guy would have been killed

Wow! That was nasty! I hope the driver makes it to recovery and a good recovery. Yeah, we can only hope the truck driver gets nabbed and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

My wife and I just saw the aftermath of a bad motorcycle crash in our town. The bike (it did have side crash bars) was a mangled wreck. Looked like it ran into the back of a car at full speed. All of the car's airbags/cushions were deployed, including the side bags.

That's exactly how my neighbor got killed in Tampa

My neighbor was rear ended while at a light on his dresser in Brandon. He had minor injuries in spite of the fact he was hit hard enough to bend the frame on his bike.

I haven’t owned one since I moved to FL in 2006 and only ridden twice since I’ve been here. It’s one of my favorite things to do but it’s more risky than heroin.

My neighbor was at the red light by the Beef O Bradys at big bend( right near the on ramp to 75)...people fly down that stretch

Sadly I will never own a street bike again. This is just another illustration of why I just had to give up riding.

This. The only way I'd ever own a bike again would be strictly for track days and racing. No more street riding for me.

I commute on 2 wheels every day that I can. That scenario in the video is one I've very aware of when riding. At a stop light I'm always flashing brake light until car approaching from behind is fully stopped. Also keep bike in gear and ready to launch. When I'm at a stop light/sign I'm fully focused on my rear view mirrors and am ready to move with my exit paths opens. No exceptions.

There is never a moment riding a motorcycle that your situational awareness can lapse. I watch every crash video I can on YouTube so I can analyze what happened. While in many cases the cager is charged or guilty of failure to yield, etc. etc. the motorcyclist also suffered some lack of situational awareness for not seeing what was happening or planning ahead to minimize risk. Riding safety doesn't happen by accident.
