So... what's the latest in the terminator alternator world, number of years back mechman was all the rage, then nations, now I hear j2fab is the latest and greatest.... so anyone have a j2fab, any failures yet?

Yup that’s what I did too. Had my stocker rebuilt locally to 170A and it ran great. No problems and it was just over $100 bucks to do.
Nice

Just get a shop that knows what they are doing to build you one that is custom with quality parts. Have had a 170A in mine for a few years now - from a place local to me - zero problems. Even had them put a spare one together for me just in case, but it's been sitting in the box with nowhere to go. Price was right as well. No need to buy in to the highs and lows of the rest.
Lots to read here: Terminator "Alternator 101"

Correct on the Nations alternator.I was thinking Nations for my next alternator. That's the one with the separate voltage regulator right? But for what it's worth I have a stock alternator I rebuilt with an upgraded stator and regulator I picked up from a place online. It works decently enough. But it needs to be spun a little more to work better at idle. I had to bump my idle up to 850 and I have a smaller pulley on the alternator. The lights still dim a bit at night when I'm at a light. But once I rev it everything comes up nice and bright.
Thanks. That's my main reason for considering the Nations. I like the idea of getting the regulator away from the heat.Correct on the Nations alternator.

Indeed. I've had mine for a couple years now. Been good.Thanks. That's my main reason for considering the Nations. I like the idea of getting the regulator away from the heat.
