My MT-82 feels better and has been more reliable than my T-56 Magnum currently. I didn't have a tailshaft seal blow out of my MT-82 at only 300 miles.

This right here is exactly why I don't really care about trying to build some super high HP car, in this day and age where 1000rwhp is the minimum of having a fast car, I'd rather be able to enjoy driving.

Yes, because the people who buy them to show off on instagram can't drive stick. Look at the last generations of supercars in resale value auto vs manual, the manual cars are always worth more money.

Called supply and demand. Its simple.

LOL at people who think those who chose to go Auto is because they can’t drive a stick. Silly I tells ya
Because when there getting smoked from the light. they have nothing else to say but"that guy is a pussy cause he smoked me in an auto"

Now when its a girl in the auto next them at the light and she smokes them in her auto its now" damn that hot girl really knows how to drive"

Back in the day? I wouldn't drive anything that wasn't stick.

Now, in my 40s with sore knees, I don't particularly GAF if anyone thinks it makes me less of a driver if I have an auto. If I were in the market for a fun car, it would likely be a 10-speed auto.

So manuals going 13s at that same track?
Of course! But... Lots still go 11's with stick.... So no matter how its spun an auto does not garantee a win, especially when you factor in auto vs auto. You are not for sure lining up again a stick shift every time which totally nulls the "I like to win so..." Argument... Not saying everyone must love and prefer a manual, I get that, I just see massive hole's in people logic on why they want an auto.

Doesnt have to guarantee it, just as long as it improves my chances to be faster, more consistent and break less shit. Again, go out to the track or look at some of these newer cars' fast list and see how the autos stack up. Hellcats, ZL1s, C7Zs, etc.

Whoever is making the argument that an auto doesn't guarantee a win if the opposing, presumably manual, car has more power/mods/etc.; well no crap. But 9.8/10 times, two cars similarly modded, weighing roughly the same, with the only difference being the transmissions, I put my money on the automatic. I traded my MT-82 '11 GT in on a '17 6R80 GT partially because I was tired of the S197 platform and partially because I wanted an auto because I was tired of breaking stuff at the track.

MT-82 + DR's + 3.73's + 150 shot of nitrous = many a bad night.

Regardless, while I miss my old car, I wouldn't trade my S550 for it. My S550 is the superior car all around and with the 6R80 and nearly same mods, much much much faster.

Look at mustang lifestyle channel on YouTube. Manual S550 with Whipple, dude can’t break into 10s, everytime it goes it breaks something. Another car that appears on one of his track videos, manual S550 with Procharger, hasn’t gone 10s either at 720whp. Both with drag packs.

To be completely fair though, and remember that I'm an auto guy myself, that is solely driver error. My 2011 GT with a 100 shot made multiple 7.2x passes, which equates to low-to-mid 11 second slips. Either of the cars you're talking about should easily have taken my lunch money back then, horrible driving aside.

But that's another huge plus with autos; easier on parts at the track, and even when a track isn't there 100%, there's a possibility you can still salvage a respectable time/trap. Not so much with a manual.

This is what I don't understand. How in the real world does owning an auto absolutly guarantee a win when you may be staged next to another auto car or a better dialed manual car thats simply faster...?

A lot of you guys seems to work for motortrend where you only race bone stock identicle cars.

Anyway the saying "there's ALWAYS someone faster" goes for me so I'll stick with what I enjoy more
Even with a bone stock auto, I have seen, and been in an automatic on Road Atlanta that did not give me a down or up shift when I needed it the most.

I watched a friend lose a lot of time in a race prepped Volvo due to the trans not doing what he expected.

I had the same thing happen in my Dakota R/T on the same track a few months later. I lost a lot of time off of the previous track day because the auto refused to cooperate.

With a manual, I am in full control.

You still have to have an auto that can perform the task at hand.

Think about the 87-93 fox 5.0. That old AOD was sluggish and slow compared to T5. The AOD was great for everyday driving. But was inconsistent when you wanted it to down shift at WOT.

Depends on your taste I guess. Manuals are more fun, no doubt. Had 96 Mystic with manual, 04 Cobra with manual, 04 Mach1 with manual, 11 5.0 with manual but my Procharged 02 GT and now 15 Procharged 5.0 are autos. My 11 was hurting me to drive which is the main reason I went to an auto, feet, shoulder, knee yada yada. I have hurt a lot of manuals feelings at the track with an auto however...drag strip of course. I also heard the 15's auto is stronger than the manual, rumor mill. 600rwhp is still a grip of fun, even in a auto.

Yes , 6r80 is way stronger than MT82.

I love feeling like “I’m one” with the car knowing the cars performance is only as good as my shifting is. But, I wish I did have an auto sometimes in this Houston traffic because it’s killer on the knee.

The zf8 auto in the jeep srt has changed my outlook on the whole manual vs auto debate. I have traditionally been a manual only person, but the modern autos have made me reconsider. You do lose the 'full' control by ditching the clutch, but the transmission goes into 'dumb' mode where you control what gear you're in: forget to upshift and the car will sit on the limiter all day, forget to downshift and the car will bog. You also gain the niceness of a torque converter to soften the hit and reduce shock to the tires. I don't care who you are: the auto will always shift faster and more consistently (unless you have a full sequential setup with dog rings).

For a mustang, I'd pick an auto if I were going with a turbo or centrifugal supercharger. Positive displacement blower, I'd pick either but would lean towards the automatic. For naturally aspirated, I'd go manual.

The wife just picked up a M2 with the DCT. It's the first time I've actually been able to spend time with a DCT. The shift are stupid fast and smooth. For me, it was more fun to drive the DCT car vs the M6 car (same M2 platform). I'm excited to take the M2 to the road course and let the DCT shine.

There's a lot that goes into the decision of the auto vs the manual. There are too many variables to have this general, overreaching consensus on which is better.

What are the thoughts on the 15+ manual paddle shifting? To be honest I have not even used mine but have only had the car about 4 months. Another aspect is the different modes the auto transmission has which also I am limited in knowledge on. My 11 nor any previous had these fancy gadgets.

This is just personal preference and what you use your car for. After a long day at work and traffic I want no part of stick, but to drive around cruising on a nice weekend I would choose stick
