Anyone buy an orphan mustang to fix up that just seemed to call out to you?

2.3 ecoboost with a 6R80 would be pretty nice project...funny how I keep looking at this mutt. Currently has at least a blown head gasket on stock motor.

A buddy of mine has a 97 GT thats been sitting in his parents driveway for probably 8 years. Tempted to motor swap it and make a road race car out of it.

Buying and fixing up older cars, especially mustangs, is better than buying new sometimes. Older cars have a personality and you can make them your own. All it takes is $$$$$

Yeah, $$$$$, bright atlantic blue would be pretty sweet.

I see those poor things on CL all the time. In fact, there's one at the local shop right now. Fox bodies and early SN95s are past the dime-a-dozen phase since so many dropped like flies or rusted away to oblivion. The ones that are left are either low mileage time capsules, "the cheapest option" for kids getting their first car, or bubba'd to hell by Cletus's Backwoods Repair Shop.

If I go on CL and look up "Mustang" from 64 to 2004, it's a rarity to see one with a complete paint job. Most have 3+ colors on the body, primer and rattle can special, and an interior that looks like rabid raccoons got into laxatives and had a field day.

Many such cases. SAD!

Local mechanic I use if I don’t feel like doing something on a daily. Has a 97 GT that has a salvage title. Put a cobra bumper on the front no svt or cobra badges however. Gutted it and turned it into a drag car.

There are a ton of bubble and edge body in the $2,000 to $4,000 range on facebook classified.

is/was that really yours??

Yes sir it was abandon at a friend’s shop since April 12 of last year. I picked it up in November. Engine is currently at my machine shop getting rebuilt. Once the engine is properly broke in and dialed in; I’ll be focusing on body work and paint repairs. 04 Comp Orange Mach 1 TR3650, 33K original miles.

It's hard not to pull the trigger on stuff like this. 99-04 is one of my favorite body styles i'd have a garage full of them if i could.

I stopped just the other day to look at a new edge that didn’t have any paint left on it.
Turns out it had over 300k miles and still not a spot of rust. Loved it.
Saved this gem and has been my DD for the past 2 years

I have the same opinion on the S197 I (05-09). But they haven’t gone down in price enough, the ones I want, for me to snatch a couple up. New Edge’s on the other hand, a nice one can be had for a very reasonable amount. I nearly bought a DHG Bullitt before my Mach 1. That car also needed work but the seller was delusional on the repairs it needed. You can ask @Revvv I was really hot for it. But the price of the car and repairs needed made the buy not worth it. Not going to lie I still think I should’ve bought it, but I found out later the guy sold the car for what I offered him.
