Anyone else frustrated with Ford over the next GT500?

They tried, I said forget this new Ford performance gt500 project and the ridiculous wait time/ price jumping. Built up my 03 cobra to 1200whp and widdled it down to 3400lbs with a full interior intact and a full road racing suspension, cobra r brakes, etc in 2015/16. Been enjoying it for over 2 years.

No complaints. I’ve been pounding the hell out of hellcats, the boosted chevys, and gt500’s, etc like they are Honda Civic si’s and m3’s. Liter bikes are fun.

I miss the John Colletti days...
Coupe? How did you get the weight down that much with a full interior?

Ya it’s a silver coupe.

•3” stainless exhaust no mufflers or cats with 1/5/8 cgfab turbo headers dropped about 100lbs. The mufflers and cats are heavy on these cars.
•aluminum cammer block, gt500 heads heavily ported with titanium retainers and stainless valves dropped about 85lbs.
•Full mm suspension drops some decent weight. 30lbs iirc with the kmember, a arms and coil overs.
•tsw rotary forges wheels dropped about 40lbs. 22lbs each vs 33 for the factory wheels iirc. I do have 18” 25” tall front tires so that’s gonna be a little lighter than the factory 17’s since the sidewall is smaller but the rears are 315/18’s and 26” tall so they are heavier. All in all it was almost exactly a 40lbs difference when I weighed all 4 17’s and 18’s with wheel/tire standing with them on a scale. Car feels 500lbs lighter because of it though. Drives much better.
•rear lvl5 s2 axles, hubs and ftbr with a Detroit trutrac and supporting mods like lighter better rotors, etc shed about 25lbs
Cobra r front brakes dropped 15-20lbs.
•trufiber hood dropped about 15lbs
•removed the spair tire, jack etc like 30lbs
•lighter aluminum radiator, stronger lighter alternator, overflow tank, tubular front crash bumper instead of the the square stock thing, no fog lamps etc all in all is maybe a 5-10lbs loss together. I also have a light in dash screen thing instead of the heavy Mach 460 unit thing. Maybe all of this is 10-15lbs but I have things like good struts and trunk mounted battery that add weight.

The entire turbo system we built up is shy of 75lbs. The turbos were the heaviest part followed by the inter cooler. I’m forgetting a few other weight savers and adders like the built trans is a little lighter but the built fuel system is a little heavier. I also have a diff and oil cooler which add like 20lbs together between the radiators and hoses/fluid. Car also has a 9qt oil pan but obviously the oil isn’t very heavy.

Last time I had the car on a scale it read 3400 but it rounds up to the nearest 25lbs. It had a bit more than half a tank of gas. I also keep about 10-20lbs of fluids and simple essential tools in the trunk spare tire well.

I plan to go stand alone Holley efi with the digital dash to clean up the engine bay/wiring harness, and hop on photoshop to make a basically stock looking led display for the thing, as well as some welcomed ( 50lbs driver and 30lbs passenger lighter) corbeau front seats and harness later this year. I’ll be putting a 6pt cage in it though from MM which will add 75lbs.

The next major weight saving mod I want to do is the drag racing shock tower forward tubular frame and some very light front fenders and bumper cover. It looks like stock from the outside but is about 100lbs all together off the nose. I’ll dig up a picture. I’m also saving for even lighter wheels, and better/lighter brakes similar to the brakeman setup front and rear with very light calipers and strong rotors. I might also do lighter window glass and lighter windshields. My goal is to get the car down to 3250lbs or less with a decent interior still intact.

Here’s the front tube frame design. I can’t find the company I liked right now, but you get the idea. The second car isn’t a mustang, but you get the idea. The mustang tube frame front ends allow the fenders and bumper cover to mount to the remaining areas, and I’d still have wheel well covers.

The terminators are already pretty revered on the street, but the lighter you can get a car the better. I’m sure once I hit 3250, I’ll set sights on 3000 still with a radio and speakers, seats, etc. I am focused on the weight balance right now. I want to get it to 53/47 or better. I’m contemplating a shortened driveshaft, recessed firewall and cutting 2” of the exhaust systems mud pipe out but the floor whole for the trans and other things are very problematic. 1st world problems. A realistic change I’ll do in a year or so is try to get the turbo system to work within an agent 47 sla front suspension. The car would be a gem of a driving experience with an sla upfront.

I think it’s these 417 units.

I need to get in contact with agent 47 and get a shcematic if the mounting points to see if I can get it to work with these 417 kits. If not, Id see about having it fabricated.

Gt500 wise, I hear the car will be pretty damn good. I just hope it comes out this year.

I anticipated the 13/14 release. I had one ordered and still had my '12 sitting in the garage with 1200 miles on it. The release of info came fairly quick, hence my decision to trade up. Got the '13, July of '12, sold the '12, life is good.
But this wait is a different animal! Luckily, I'm not in the market. Otherwise I'd be scratching my damn eyes out!
Although I'm not a buyer for a new one I'll say, this bitch had better deliver!
And I feel for the large group that are now in "eye scratching mode".

I really wanted a twin turbo v8 with an excellent suspension and modern cabin. When the s550 came out I was thinking it would end up having my idea of the perfect amg esc turbo v8 sophisticated suspension hipo model. When the gt350r came out I was blown away and very excited. I was certain we were a year or so out from the turbo monster I wanted ford to make.

Then I saw the markups on the gt350r.

Then months passed with no news. I was already freshening my 03 cobra. Midway through I just went nuts and started going pretty all out on it, paid cash for basically all of it.

Now I’m not a possible customer for the 19 gt500 because I pay cash for project/fun time cars and I’m no where near $80k on hand. That said, I will gladly cheerlead the damn thing if Ford will get the damn release info out.

I hope I’m right and you’re wrong but honestly you’re probably right.

I’m anticipating an April 18 reveal, order banks in May/June/July 18, (I don’t know the timing on those) and a limited November/December 2018 release of like 500 cars, with the majority being 19/20 at about 2500-5000 per year.

That said, it’s a lock that it’s on sale 2019.

Sounds like exactly what I said a while back.

Because Ford confirmed it's a MY 2019.

I could be wrong but do not think that it being a MY 2019 would dictate when it is released...I am not sure why the president of Shelby American would say something that contradicts Ford? Could it not be a 2019 MY released in 2020 based on Gary's quote in that recent interview? I recall there being MY 2017 and 2018 Shelby GT500's too...yet here we are and still no GT500...

No one with any kind of pull has EVER said there was a MY17 or MY18 GT500.

Its a calendar year 2019 and a 2019 model year car. It was stated by a ford executive, in an interview and I posted a link to it a few pages back. Here it is again, this should clear it up. Watch the video.
http://www.mustangandfords.com/news...anager-mark-schaller-talks-bullitt-and-gt500/

It WILL BE a 2019 Calendar Year car, designated as a 2019 Model Year, which means its coming from 1-1-2019 to change over which usually is around mid year 6-1-2019. I'm guessing it will be here around March or april, for a very short 2019 MY run before switching over to 2020my in around june of 2019. Most wont see this car until year 2020.

Cool, I am just going by articles I had read from motortrend, automobile mag, caranddriver, etc over the past couple of years...I do not pretend to know who/what is reputable or has 'any kind of pull' I can only speak for what I have read (and a simple google search brings some of those articles up again about 2017 and 2018 models, several articles dating back to 2016)...of course there are certain sources I write off immediately...honestly I am not digging my heels in on anything given the rumors that have been swirling around for longer than I care to remember at this point...now Ford says 2019, Gary Patterson says 2020, and so it continues. I guess the best thing to do is just ignore all rumors and wait and see what actually HAPPENS. I have no skin in this particular game anyway.

I want to do weight savings like that to my 01. Only thing is it’s a convertible but it looks like that’s about the same or a little less than the 03-04 coupes. Plan is to lighten up as much as possible without sacrificing interior and to keep it N/A and make it a corner carver.
