I stopped and looked at a 2015 V6 today and while I didn't drive it, the seats, interior, etc. felt similar to my wife's 2011. I know the performance numbers are close between the two platforms but other than the looks I'm curious how different they actually are when it comes to driving.

We own a 13 GT M6 and finally got to drive a GT 400a, M6 non PP today.

They interior layout is very similar to the out going model, but I did like how there was more soft touch material scattered around the cab. Personally I thought the seats were much nicer than mine, and I loved the fact they were cooled.

As far as driving, it seemed more responsive/nimble to me. Salesman (great guy) was with me and I didn't get to go down a twisty road, but did do a 0-100 pull. To be honest I couldn't tell any real difference from my car, but that was to be expected. Looking over the hood is a LOT different than the out going models, you can see more of it which took some getting used to. It was considerably quiter inside than mine, I get a lot of road noise and the new car didn't have much at all. The clutch felt VERY soft to me, even the wife commented on it...said it was too soft, good girl! And the shifter did not really impress me, wasn't terrible but I do believe I will be replacing it when I get one.

All in all it was about what I expected, I think Ford did a fine job with this car and look forward to what the aftermarket does with them.

Expected improvements for a new model, but I just can't get over the exterior styling. Maybe when I see one on person, maybe ...

I wouldn't count on it. I saw my first one today. I have to preface this by saying I was loving the new car in the pictures, and was considering selling mine to get one. Now I'm not so sure and will reserve judgement for a bit.

The car I saw today was Ruby Red, which in my opinion didn't look good at all. It was a 400A premium car. The wheels were the 18 inch. Overall, the car just had a wimpy appearance to me. It could have just been the wheels/color combo, and I'm sure it would look much better with a proper set or wheels. The interior was cool looking but when I sat down in the car I immediately decided I liked the interior of my car more. I am 6'3", and I felt cramped. I do not feel that way in my car. I felt like I had WAY less headroom, and the dash seemed to encroach on my knees much more than my 2011. The car just didn't have the impact on me that I thought it would. My good buddy who works there asked me if I wanted to take it out, and I declined. That's how "meh" I felt. Two cars down was a 2013 GHIG that was mildly modded, and it looked WAY more bad ass. I spent more time looking at that.

Hopefully when I see one with PP in a better color, or sporting the 20 inch wheels and recaros, my opinion will change.

I have a 2012 GT and sold my Shelby in signature in preparation for the 15's(was planing on the GT350 or GT500 if there is one).
I have been tempted by the GT but afraid it would just end up like my 12- modded to the gills but not so nice to drive daily.
My dealer has 2, both with the aniversay appearance -a race red one on 18's and black one with PP.
I never even considered black even though I now have 3 black cars(M235,S4 and Explorer sport) but the black with black wheels of the pp looks stunning!.I probably would have bought it but don't like the corralled horse/chrome of the anniversary package.
I agree as the race red with 18 wheels looks pretty wimpy.I had considered a ruby red but having seen the red on the car color preferences have gone back to guard/magnetic/ black.
I drove the red one -I thought the interior was nice( better than my m235).I don't think a base would have the same expensive feel as the premium.I really want recaros and although the anniversary appearance seats are nice I don't like the rest of the chrome on the exterior(you also lose the fangs)
I only drove few miles and there was traffic so I can't say I could really tell the difference with the IRS.
I must say any stock car I get into feels like a Cadillac compared to my 12 GT.
I went ahead and ordered a Guard/pp/recaro but my dealer is cool and I don't have to buy it if I decide to wait on the GT350/500.
If I do get it I will do FI but torn between the new whipple/or twin turbos(I now have a steigmeir Rouse/8 rib on my 12).
I really don't want to end up like my 12 and will want it to to still feel close to stock in terms of the ride .
Definitely no more engine swaps and power that exceed the stock fuel system.
The stance of the the PP is almost perfect. The back looks great but the front looks like it should drop a bit.
I would be worried about swapping the specially tuned springs so taller tires(front and back) may fix that.
I am also torn between a manual and an automatic.I am about to do an auto swap in to my 12 so a manual makes the most sense but don't want to end up with a crappy MT82-I think I got lucky as the one in my 12 has help up well-has RXT clutch and bronze fork pads and has been cryotreated .If I get a manual I will have my RXT clutch to swap in If eventualy need to(if it fits)
I saw that Ford racing now sells a magnum XL swap it says for 2005-2014, and I wonder if this means the GT350 will get that.
In which case that would make up my mind to wait on one.
Sorry for my ramblings if you read the entire post.It does help me to put down my thoughts in writing when trying to make a decision .
Below is a photo of the black one.

You know that car was credited with saving the mustang brand during the oil embargo right? It was a sales success for Ford.

Not to mention retro has gotten played out the S197 sales have been ho-hum compared to the Fox and SN95 cars. Linky

After looking at that graph were lucky to even be getting a dedicated platform for the mustang, its sales have been worse for longer than when Ford considered replacing it with the probe. Im surprised no-ones caught on that it might actually be on thin ice, see 2002 camaro.

I think it is unlikely that Ford would end production of the Mustang. More likely is that other cars will be built off of the S550 chassis to save costs.

Here's hoping for a new Lincoln LS. It would by ironic for the old DEW98 platform to come full circle and all the kinks have been worked out of it by now.

How the hell do you figure that? The performance of the 15 is pretty much identical with last years model. The engine is even a slightly upgraded version of the last gens, but otherwise the same. The 15 has a better suspension and arguably better looks (because I hate the retro look). Its a more refined car. Now how do you compare the 2015 to the mustang II exactly?

I would love to see the return of the Mark series coupe using this platform.

LOL

Now seriously, I wouldn't go that far. The S550 is still definitely ALL Stang, just not the design I would've gone after.
